Anybody experiencing 'Screen-Burn' with their iMac?

    Hi all

I have an iMac, about a year and 7 months old, that is getting mild and temporary screen burn type symptoms. If for example I have a single window open with a white background for a period of time, and that window is then minimised, I can clearly see the image of the window burned into the screen. after about 20 seconds the image fades to nothing and it's back to normal. this has started happening only recently.

Has anybody experienced this? If so, has apple acknowledged the problem and issued a repair?

    Cheers!

Is the iMac running very hot? Are you doing a lot of intensive work? Heat seems to be a factor in this issue. Many people have reported success using smcFanControl to temporarily increase the fan speed.

Probably a good idea to log this problem with Apple now and keep an eye on it.

No hotter than normal really, and the most intensive tasks are word processing. I'll try running the fans faster and see if it makes a difference.

Does it show up in screenshots? (Just to be sure it's not a problem with the graphics card.)

No, it only appears on the desktop background image. I have my background set to 50%/Neutral grey and that appears to make it more noticeable. The tech in apple asked me to reset the PRAM and set my screensaver to cycle through colours. I don't think he understood that while these might fix the issue, it shouldn't really be happening at all.

Yeah, I had this on a 24" iMac and it was a pain in the arse.

One solution was to create a white screensaver and a white desktop background which helps a bit but it's not uncommmon:

Quick update to those of you who might be interested. Apple replaced the screen even though it was out of warranty.

I quoted my consumer rights and the technician authorised the replacement. Just goes to show you that even if your machine falls out of Applecare your consumer rights may still protect you!
