Is there any way of checking to see if there are any penalty point notices in the pipeline before you actually recieve notification of them ? I'd be grateful for any advice from anyone regarding this.

i too would like to know if such a system exists, and also if you can check whether points have yet expired? i got 2 points ages ago and have a feeling it was longer than 2 years.. but would like to know for sure

I rememebr from my old job that you could do this very easily... we had to vet all employees licnces once a year working for us.
you can contact your local motor tax office and they should be able to give you an update on them for free over the phone....

if you want a written response, you had to write to them enclose a fee, used to be €5, and they would send you back a written response within 30 days..

You won't recieve notice when the point's expire you have to ring and check,
as for checking if theres points coming your way you have to wait until you recieve
notice or a summons as the points take effect immediatly but its not "on record" so they probably won't tell you, Its stupid but hey what can you do.

    Wrong.

    i recieved 2 points in Sept '05
Sept '08 and in the door pops a letter telling me that my points have expired.

Point are not effective immediately, they are applied soon after, when you have paid your fixed penalty notice or finished with your court case had you chosen to take that route.

Well with the expiry letters youve done better than anyone i know as they never got a thing maybe its something recent.

But the application of points as far as it was explain to me by a guard(my uncle)that as soon as it go through there system its applied and notice sent the same day or ASAP if you challange it, it still applys untill a judge overturns it. one of the times where your guilty till proven innocent it messed up one of our drivers insurence cause his renewel came before his court date. Cost him a grand as they were points 3+4 it put his premium through the cieling.

why didnt the driver just change his insurer after his (I assume) successful appeal.... cheaper quote from someone else.

I don't know why but to be fair he was not the sharpest tool in the box no offense to the guy he was one of the best drivers going.

Surely this contravenes the Data Protection Act?

How long do does it take a Garda to issue points? I've been waiting 7 weeks already.

7 weeks since you were caught or 7 weeks since you received the admission of guilt letter and signed it?

Should have received the FCPS notice by now. One of the ''lost'' FCPS notices i'd say.

Wait for the summons and see a solicitor.

I doubt it, it will still arrive, i had to wait nearly 5 months for my letter after getting pulled

Prefer draffodx's reply. Strange to say, but i hope it still comes. Really don't want to pay for a solicitor for something that could of easily been sorted through normal channels

How soon after an offence had happened would they have a record of it ? Would it be within a week after say a car had passed a Gatso ?
