My Mother who has NTL Digital has a problem with subtitles they won't go away, I've tried stopping them by turning them off but when you change a channel they come back again, I've done a full factory reset but still the problem persists, anyone have the same problem?

Yes, I had that problem on chorus digital in Cork last friday. This had happened before but seemed to affect more channels this time (Sky News and Alibi) plus the threetext 'cover page' kept appearing on TV3 no matter how often I pressed cancel. Switched the box off overnight and the problem hasn't recurred since. On a previous occassion, I speculated that it might be an i. test as in-vision subtitles are an interactive service? Don't know how accurate this is?

My fathers was the same, he was turning them off while on the channel. This is the wrong way to do it, you must go to the main menu and into settings (preferences?) and turn subtitles to OFF in there. This is the main default control.

My fathers was set to ON, so every channel presumes you want subtitles, and if you turn it off on the channel then it will come back on again if you flick over and back again, since it presumes this is what you want.

This was on the white branded UPC box, which is terrible BTW!

When you've gone into the preference settings and changed subtitle language to "off" make sure you press the OK button to exit that screen. If you press the back button to exit, it won't save your settings.

    Thanks Taxman that fixed it.
