    Righty

3 is utter c0ck at the best of times.

It just stops download/upload activity at random [ie 0kb/sec download 0 kb/sec upload speed]

I constantly have to disconnect the modem, re connect, reboot, smash the modem off the wall etc.

Do users of Vodafone/o2 experience such crapiness?

I had 3 mobile broadband, promised coverage was great in my area! I had to bring it back within the cancellation period, I think might have been 14 days. It was so bad!

The same happened to my brother but he got zero signal and had to return it also.

I use Vodafone now, much better, has it's moments but only twice in 6 months have I had to power off laptop. There were strange issues at the start but the techie helpdesk at Vodafone helped me, it was something to do with Norton on my laptop!

I find Vodafone fine, I had only gone for 3 originally because it was the cheapest, but if it doesn't work cheap is no good.

Yes, however, it's probably to a lesser degree than for Three users. There are however some users on O2 and Vodafone that get pretty much the same crappy service as you get on Three. Changing will be no guarantee of better service.

    considering the 3 meggggggga thread

I think voda and o2 are considerably better, hence my question

3 is absolute dog balls. I fin myself having to disconnect the modem every minute to get a connection

    pure piss

There is no assurance with Mobile, especially if used as a fixed service, that even if you get a usable service when you sign up, that it won't deteriorate to under 100kbps.

By all means if you NEED MOBILITY sign up to 02, Vodafone or Meteor.

If you need fixed Broadband, then Cable without the TV, DSL via phone line or Metro/Fixed Wireless (so called Broadband in a box is no better than Mobile).

Why Mobile generally only gets worse:

I have used O2 for over a year about 900m from mast in a rural area and never got better than 700kbps down, 70kbps up @ 120ms latency. A bit faster in some places in Dublin, but also up to 2000ms

I'm with O2. Was with 3 and had a predictably p!ss poor experience with them. I'm reasonably happy with my O2 mobile internet. It can be a bit slow at peak times but never go the sub dial-up speeds of 3's fraudband. It very rarely drops out though sometimes it can take a few attempts to connect.

Do you have any friends who have the Vodafone or O2 mobile internet? That would be a good way to check for sure. A friend of mine was thinking of getting the O2 one as well and I went over to her house one night with my laptop. Turned out her neighbourhood was an O2 blackspot and the modem could only pick up an EDGE signal.

I have been using 3 for the last 6 days on the 7 day pay as you go.
I use as a backup and to compare the different offerings available.

It's the slow upload speed that cause's timeouts on some requests

Also see this thread on how to configure the modem's to get working properly.
The AT strings can also be used in windows.

    Regards,
    J.
