Appleyard in Sandyford Industrial Estate have taken on Ford - I'd expect they've taken over from Esmonde's.

That's a surprise. Do they still have Peugeot and SEAT?

Yep, but I don't know what their plans are - I doubt a Peugeot or Seat franchise will pay the bills at the moment...

I'd imagine it will be a bit of a tight squeeze with all of those franchises under one roof.

I wonder will you be getting much competition from them when the Exeo arrives?:D

I can see it having a bit of an effect on any second hand B7 A4s that are around, but by and large I don't think it'll have an effect.
Seat won't market it against the Audi A4, nor the 3-Series or C-Class. They'll be marketing against the Mondeo and Insignia and so that's what most customers will end up comparing them against.
I'm not sure how the Exeo will fare in that company, tbh.

You still might find some people tempted by the savings on what is essentially an old model A4. It also has the newer generation of engines and improved ride/handling over the B7 A4. But in Ireland at least, the lack of the four rings on the grille will be enough of a deal breaker for most.

Autocar also did a road test recently between the Exeo and B8 A4 and according to them, the latter didn't put the former much to shame.

And regarding the Exeo being put up as a rival to the Insignia and Mondeo, I'm guessing you're a keen reader of the InGear supplement that comes with The Sunday Times!:P

I'd think that people who buy Audi/BMW/Merc are swayed by the badge, and few would think that, even though it's an Audi at heart, the Seat will cause their neighbours to "oooh" and "aaaah" they way they hope an Audi would.

Also, although I'm not surprised to see head-to-heads between the Exeo and the B8, I'll be interested to see if there'll ever be a head-to-head between the Exeo and a 3-series, or the Exeo and an XF.

If you're spending €25k-ish, would you not buy the bigger and more competent Mondeo over a rebadged, old A4?

    Guilty as charged! :D

That's what I was saying there. The majority of A4's in Ireland are not bought for the car, but for the badge. Therefore the Exeo probably wouldn't be much of a threat to your business.

You must mean the Jag X-type? I'd say a group test between one of them, the Exeo and maybe a Volvo S40 would be a fair test. The old A4 was said to be a better car than both of them as well.

I'd probably buy an Insignia to be honest, or possibly a Mazda 6. I don't really care for the styling of the Mk4 Mondeo that much.

Sorry, X-Type. Do you think Seat can go up against Jag & Volvo?

Well in this months What Car? magazine it fought off the S40 2.0D R-Design, and the B7 A4 was always considered to be a better car than the X-type, which is a rebodied Mk3 Mondeo itself and is as old as the B6 A4. That, combined with the Exeo receiving the latest engines from the B8 would more than likely make it the better car. The only thing wrong with it is the badge, and in Ireland that's quite a big deal for some people.

Up against cars like the Merc C-Class, E90 3 Series, etc, the Exeo hasn't got a chance. But it is good as a rival to less accomplished and older cars in the class like the Saab 9-3 and the Jag and Volvo as mentioned above.

I reckon it'll steal sales from the Superb. the SEAT badge goes down a little easier, and the exeo isn't as clumsy looking as the Superb (it's also not as big, but that's probably not an issue for most)

So when can we expect the Exeo in Ireland?

I dunno if it's an import or what but the price is good for what you get

    Ack Who drives Seats anyway?

Old people is who and those fancy models with alloys and bodykits we see in magazines and throughout Google are nothing compared to what will actually hit the streets.

I am very unsure about it. I thought the pictures of the Avensis were great but in reality it was a horrible looking car from the rear and a little worse than the pictures on the front end.

So, you never know. It may not fly at all. It may end up very much like the Renault Avantime.
