Basic set up Questions

    Hi

Ive a couple of questions you might be able to help me with. Some software and some hardware.

    First Hardware:

Ok first is say i wanna do a pup gig, first on my own and then with a band.

I have a good Allen & heath PA 12-CP desk. What PA system should i be looking at to maximise its potential. Would 1000W Speakers like these be enough? And is that all i need if its a powered desk? Well leaving aside the obvious leads, stands etc.

    Second is a software question.

I have always wanted to connect my Yamaha MO8 synth to my mac. I have a copy of Logic Pro and i have a USB cable to connect the two. I have tried to do it before and managed to get it once (i don't know how) but i could only get the piano sound to come out of it. I would ideally be able to record a couple of different tracks with 4 or 5 different layers and put them together. This is possible as the Keyboard supports 16 different tracks.

Any ideas would be appreciated. If you could provide a link to a reasonably priced decent set of speakers that would be great too.

And i'd show you the lovely music i'd be making here if i could get the mac working with the synth. Its such a waste having it away for the last year or so.

    Many Thanks in advance

    Stiofan

    Hi Stiofan,

I know nothing about PA's so I can't help you there.

On the Logic thing though. You need a midi keyboard to play the sounds within Logic, you can pick them up fairly cheaply.

Read your quick start manual that came with Logic and you will be up and running in no time.

USB should do the trick too.
Stiofán, create a new Software Instrument track in Logic, and set up the channel for whatever patch you want to use. Highlight the track, and click the 'R' button so it's red. Now try playing the Yamaha and see if you get output from the channel...

Let us know how you get on.
