    Well,
Sky are coming on Wednesday and I was just wondering will they put the dish on any side of the house they want or can I decide or what position is best for the best signal?
I would obviously prefer it to be at the back
    Thanks

When they came to install my dish they wanted to put the dish where it suited them and they wanted to drill a hole in the wall to run the cable in to the house even though I already had a cable run through the attic from the roof and down into the living room behind the plasterboard. I persevered with them and although I had to go into the attic and handle the cabling(they would not go into the attic) I did get it installed my way. When I upgraded to Sky+ the guy that came out was much more accommodating and although I again did the attic bit he was very willing to listen to my needs. So just be clear with them as to what you want and be perpared to get your own hands dirty if need be. Obviously the dish will have to be in a position to recieve the signal in the first place.

I was contacted today by a man living outside Gorey town he got sky+ installed on Saturday afternoon. Two installers arrived around 1 pm and finished.???? the job at 6.45 pm that evening. They attached the dish to a tree at the side of the house ran twin coax all around a shed to get to the house and demanded €268 for the install. I am calling to this house this week to see can this install be rectified i will also take some snaps if i can.

Was it an independent installer? Any Sky-assigned installers up this direction would just walk away if the job was hassle in any way.

He signed up for Sky through the Kiosk in Dunne's store's shopping centre Gorey. As far as he knows the installers came from Carlow. When the installers came they originally put the dish on his chimney but could not get line of sight, then their meter packed in they left the house to get a differant meter, they then phoned this man to say they are on their way back to Carlow and will be back later that day to finish the job This man was not presant at the time when they came back because of the rugby match He cancelled the Cheque he paid them

I dont know much about this but do know that the dish has to point towards the satelite or something! When they put my dish up they wanted to put it in front of house, I asked them to put it on the side of the house and cause it still faced the satelite there they put it on the side......very happy with them! :)

Do you have any more? I would like to see some of the dish. Just wait till all the leaves appear and watch the signal disappear.
That is unless they chopped part of the tree away as part of this "professional installation".

I'm surprised they just didn't abandon it, refusing to install it.

Any decent installer with an ounce of experience and sense would.

Thats one hell of an install, you would need some balls to do that and charge money for it.

Thats f***ing crazy having the cables on the ground and having the sky dish on the tree.

Your friend should ring Sky and tell them how the lads fitted his Sky up and say that he has pictures too aka your pictures.

I'm currently thinking getting digital but not with Sky now after seeing this. Maybe UPC as they are having digital at half price for 3 months

Not all satellite Installers work to this pathetic standard.
I've seen UPC and broadband installs on a similar bad scale.

Have a look at your neighbours houses and see what/how they have their installs done and you'll gauge an opinion on how yours would be carried out.

Is it possible to get a sticky on this one?

I think a name and shame is a great idea. Not sure legally about it, but even just to put up the pics.

I had an install done last year and I'll put up the pics of what the professional installer in Cork city thought was acceptable.

Right accross the opening to the attic?

I asked him how long he was doing this when he came back as he done it when I was in dublin. He told me 12 years, I told him I had done a few installations myself and would never leave any job looking like this.

I rang the office to get him back to fix it.......when he came back to the house, he asked "whats wrong with that" i just asked if he thought that was acceptable? his answer....."YES".

    Says it all really.

But the dish on the tree.......thats unbelievable!!!!!

While we're on the subject, here's an example of a quality UPC install.
Some of the things I've seen that are out of view to the customer are mind boggling.

Heh, wire seems to have got damaged across the ridgetile, so they just stick a joint on it? LOL. Wires shouldn't cross over the ridgetiles, especially unprotected.

Did you order Satellite install or a temporary covert Surveylence?

I don't know who installed this but the house owner's father in law is a long time customer of mine he got me out to rectify it. AFAIK the house owner got it from Door to Door sales reps but i am not 100%. Anyhow if the installers were more expierenced, had a head for heights and had proper brackets and poles in their van they could have left the job like this.
