I watched 'almost famous' recently and thought it was absolutely brilliant. Music in the film was sensational from beginning to end. Cameron Crowe directed this and I realized that I actually like a few of his other films as well like vanilla sky and Jerry Maguire, although Jerry Maguire was quite commercial. Anyway what's peoples opinions of the other films he directed like Elizabethtown and say anything and is there anything I'm missing? Haven't seen these films yet so wondering is it worth it?
On a side note in almost famous is a song by Nancy Wilson called 'cabin in the sky', found that after a lot of searching, but does anyone know where I could download this song as it seems to be impossible to get! Thanks in advance.

Almost famous is a great movie, Song-track is great.
Fun movie. Jerry Maguire while a big commercial movie it was still good entertainment. Other then introducing the world to you had me at hello.
Vanilla sky is also a movie with a killer soundtrack, strange film but enjoyable not for everyone.
Elizabeth town was pure pants was looking forward to it as it, watched only some of it couldn't stay watching it orlando bloom's performance was horrible(not a shock!)
Say anything was an alright movie, felt like a real chick flick!

    Elizabethtown was damn awesome!

It really is an acquired taste though and I'm in love with Kirsten Dunst so might be a bit biased. Singles is pretty good tough, extremly rough but by no means a bad film.

I think all of his films bar Elizabethtown are worth a watch, to be honest

Some better than others, but usually solid enough, nothing that tops Almost Famous though.

I find him very hit and miss. But when it's a hit it's a *real*l hit. For example I love Elizabethtown and Vanilla Sky (possibly his two least cool movies to admit you like?) but the rest of his movies just have no effect on me at all even though they all run along similar lines and appear to cater to similar audiences.

I think I have to identify with the particular story and themes of each movie before you can enjoy it. He doesn't have the ability to draw you into subject matter that is not relevant to your own life.

Nancy Wilson is married to Crowe just for anyone who didnt know.

I am a fan of all of Crowe's work

The only flaw i had with Elizabethtown was the casting of Orlando Bloom

I think Crowe wrote Fast Times at Ridgemont High

The soundtrack is probably the best soundtrack ever, but when you watch the film it's like he sticks 5 seconds of a good song in for no reason other than to get it on the soundtrack

Almost Famous is the definite career highlight - the Untitled Cut is just fantastic. Great music, great cast (only thing Kate Hudson is watchable in, Patrick Fugit was perfect and Billy Crudup / Frances McDermott were just as good - plus the supporting cast of Anna Paquin, Zooey Deschanel, Jason Lee etc...) and great script (littered with memorable scenes and setpieces).

Rest of his films are hit and miss. Elizabethtown was like a far less assured version of Garden State (hell, they even namecheck the Shins are one point during the 'mixtape' scene), Vanilla Sky interesting and visually assured but a bit pointless when you compare it to the original, and Say Anything / Singles enjoyable but throwaway romcoms. I'll defend Jerry Maguire though - cheeseball yes, but a very watchable and entertaining film, despite 'that' ending.

I have such mixed feelings about Crowe. I absolutely loved Almost Famous - just everything about it, from soundtrack, story, acting .... Jerry Maguire and Say Anything are pretty good too.

So I watched Vanilla Sky with enthusiasm only to find it as one of the worst films I've ever seen. I do like quirky films normally, but I thought this was awful.

I haven't seen Elizabethtown yet. I will one day, but won't get my hopes up too much.

To be fair, he has only directed 6 films ...

For me, Almost Famous is the best, Elizabethtown is the worst (hated, hated, hated the characters) - I haven't seen Vanilla Sky but know of its reputation.

Special mention to 'Singles' as I was smack in the middle of my teens listening to grunge when the film came out.

Almost famous is autobiographical and great, didn't think much of Elizabethtown

Nancy Wilson is Cameron Crowe's wife, and composed some of the music for Almost Famous, so it's unlikely to be anywhere other than the film.
