Closure of Esmonde Motors

I have a Ford Focus that I bought last year from Esmonde Motors. As they have now closed down does that mean my warranty is now worthless.
Car is now due a service. Can anyone advise whether I should go to another Ford dealer in Dublin or go to an independent mechanic. i.e. will it affect the trade in value if I don't go to a main dealer.
    Thanks

Your warranty is with Ford not the dealer, you can go to and Ford dealer for warranty issues.

Did you buy a brand new Focus or a used one. If it was used then it depends on the year of the car. If you bought new then 2qk4u is correct - any Ford dealer.

    How old is the car?

If the car is within the Ford warranty period your warranty is with Ford.

If the car is out of Ford warranty, and was covered by a dealer warranty, then yes, that is gone.

Your warranty is fine whether Esmondes are there or not.

There's a debate as to whether a lack of a full, main dealer service history affects your trade-in value. Typically, the newer the car the more important it is, but it's more important to have a full service history than a main-dealer full service history.

If Esmonde are closed down, who has moved into Goatstown road (used to be Victor motors)?

Esmonde were there form the time since Murphy and Gunn moved back to their own premises until when they filed for voluntary liquidation a few weeks ago.

Appleyard in Sandyford Industrial Estate have taken on Ford - I'd expect they've taken over from Esmonde's.

I posted a thread here about them a few months ago. My opinion is to get basic servicing done there if you want but take their service recommendations with a pinch of salt (and then get a second opinion done)!

Thanks for replies everyone. Yes it's a new ford focus 2008. It's just coming up to 20,000km and I have it over a year so reckon it's time for a service.
I rang the ford dealers in Herberton Rd, Rialto for a quote. They said about €168. That doesn't seem way more than an independent would charge or am I being naive? Will there be loads of extras?

That could be the actual price. Ford are notoriously cheap for their servicing.

The price you were quoted is for the basic service which is all you should need at 20,000km. However, if they find anything else such as brake pads or other wear and tear items (wipers possibly) that are in need of replacement then it will be extra but you should be informed of the extra charge before any part are fitted. Any other faults will be covered by warranty. That said, at 20,000km the basic service is likely to be all you'll pay for.
