Night Drive

Went out for a good spin last night at about 1030 pm, form north dublin to baltinglass-castledermot and back to dublin along the N9/M7 to the M50 and back home. The bit to baltinglass-castledermot-N9 was grand. Got to the three lane N7 from Naas to Dublin and thats where all the lunacy started, passed out by at least 1 jeep and 3 cars doing 170 kmh+, caught all of them at the newlands lights. There didnt seem to be any fear of getting caught by the guards. There was plenty of speedsters on the M50 too, even though most of the M50 is one giant roadwoks at the moment. Was also passed on the M1 by a renault megane doing 190 kmh. Is this type of mad driving going on much at this time of night on motorways and national roads throughout the country?

On a night-spin I might chance my arm at pushing the car a bit on a totally empty national road but not on a well-lit motorway

How about a totally dark empty motorway (M9 Kilcullen Bypass)? :D

I was driving along the M7 the other day and was passed my a 04 LX Fiesta doing around 170kph+(at a best guess).

I dont care how fast other cars travel but I was shocked to see a little fiesta doing that kind of speed. It must have been fit to explode.

Late night/early morning especially around 430/5am - 7am The lunacy that goes on ain't funny, its really scary. The dangerous over taking and tail gating!
But this has always gone on, what can you do not much!

It all goes crazy because the gards start doing their checkpoints! :D

Also the reason for all the road deaths at night! Feels like snail pace driving at 60 or 80 after them speeds!

The motorways are always ridiculously easy to get away with speeidng at night. I drove from Vue (Liffey valley) to Newbridge via the M50 in 17 minutes(Google maps makes that ab average of 106mph for the journey). I was in a hurry at the time and in a car that was made for speed but still thinking back it was lunacy. I was coming home from Dublin along the M7 on Saturdya morning and at least 3 different civics passed me doing 160kmh+. Doing it on the motorways is relatively safe compared to the trying to adjust your speed to a much reasonable level when you exit. As someone else mentioned after doing that kind of speed on a motorway readjusting to a country road is a big problem even for the most experienced of drivers.

I used to have to drive to work at 4 am every morning, usually from slane to somewhere in dublin, i was in an ould hi ace so the limit was about all it could do and i got overtaken and tailgated the whole way there non stop

Done a few early morning Cork - Dublin runs. Lets saying I wasn't holding back on the motorway sections.

Theres definately a few sections of N11 i've being eyeing up, free reign of the roads for a few hours would be nice!

Watch out for the occasional deer and badger on that stretch.... Badgers can make surprisingly big dent (I'm told) and deer have a tendency to reach the windscreen area on impact.

What out for pigs aswell. Not nice getting a €80 fine and 2 penalty points. :D

Aplogies to any member of the Gardai reading this. When he started talking about animals i couldn't resist. Got caught speeding along that road years ago.

    Yes, people stay people,

You can act self righteous, correct and judgmental but sometimes people just get the urge to push it.

Have you never done 80km/h on a 50km/h road?

If you live in a constant fear of everything, maybe you should lock yourself in a box?

Im not acting self righteous. I forgot to mention that i overtook the renault megane for a laugh when he got off the M1, he was heading the same way as me on an R road. I have 6 penalty points at the moment so im fairly paranoid now when it comes to speeding, especially on roads where there are allocated and marked places for guards to set up speed traps. If i was caught doing over 160 on the motorway or National road then I could kiss my licence goodbye.

    Alright, fair enough, mate.
