getting a higher monitor resolution

currently my widescreen resolution is 1360X768 which is just a touch too short on the height for protools (need to scroll up and down a bit on the mixer (which isnt the end of the world but a touch annoying).

anyway, this is the max resolution that my monitor offers so i was wondering is there anyway of fooling it into giving me 1024 on the height but maintaing a certain amount of aspect ratio? i caan go to 1360x1024 but it warps the visual becomes hard to read font. is there any videocard settings that can help me?

thanks in advance and sorry if theis is a dumb q!

there is another res setting that ties in with what yer thinking of, called "DPI" but unsure of how much that'd help you out though.

this is really bizarre, i can get higher resolutions than 1024 on the height but it means theres a lot of stuff off the edge of the screen. and i can get smaller resolutions no problem. but when i select 1024 (or 900) i get a blank screen with "input not supported! any ideas?

Its a combination of what the supported resolutions of your monitor are and what your video card can display. you can get programs that force certain monitor resolutions but many of these arent going to display on a generic external monitor and also, as you warp the aspect ratio away from 4:3 or 16:9 you are just going to get problems with the image.

Why not rotate your image 90 degrees? If its height you need more than width.
You could have a 768x1360 image instead of a 1360x768 one. Your aspect would be 9:16 then. Many video cards support this feature. If not, there are other ways.

Alternatively, get a 2nd monitor and use extended desktop vertically rather than horizontally. You would then have twice the heighth.

lready on 2 monitors. its not so much the screen real estate that i need just an extra cm or so for protools mixer. ahh i can live with it. just used to having 2 crt with 1024 height.

Oh, so I take it then you had 2x 4:3 CRTs that did 1280x1024 but you got new 16:9 screens which are 1360x768. Thats where you are loosing the height?
Does your monitor and card not support 1600x1050?

    yup
Does your monitor and card not support 1600x1050?

my graphics card supports it but it would seem the monitors dont. i used the graphics card to try "force" 1600x1050 onto the monitors but i still get the input not supported message.

Double check the refresh rate too. Some monitors have problems displaying more than 60hz so if you have it at 75Hz or 80Hz for instance, that could be the problem and not the resolution.

There's a big problem with lcd type monitors... they have a 'native' resolution, and if you set the monitor to anything but this you either get a different size screen area or a 'fuzzy' looking picture.

It's a hard lesson and end up shopping by the requirements of the exact rez you need.
