I've just bought two R4 cards for my kids off Pixmania. I've loaded games and necessary files into micro sd card but when I put them into the DS all I get is "loading" on the top screen. I've also put the micro sd's into different R4 cards and they work.

    ANY IDEAS?????

I am by far no expert but I believe R4 cards are dead in the water especially for new games.

You will need to install an alternative custom firmware for the R4 cards to work!

You might be better off posting this in the Console Modding section???

The micro sd's work in your other R4's but not the new ones?

Are the new ones micro sdhc compatible only, maybe?

The clone R4 cards are sdhc, afaik.

    Have a read here:

They did for a couple of weeks, they are gone off the site now though :(

Seemed a bit ridiculous that when you searched DS, Professor Layton came up for €39.99 and and R4 came up underneath for €9.99!

The loading screen means that you bought a clone R4 card, and not an offical R4 card so the R4 software will not work. I can help as I was having the same problem. I bought a clone (unaware) for $6. It is called r4ultra. If you have the same as mine go to: (check the label on card)

www.4rultra.com and download the 1.54 kernal and extract files to the root directory of the microsd card.

    It will work fine now.

that may be the problem alright, a clone does not mean it does not work, just these R4 variants require different kernel software, not a biggie, just search for your exact R4 variant on the net

I believe R4 cards are dead in the water especially for new games.
If it's a recent game you are backing up, then you will need to perform an Arm7 swap via DSBuff, not massively complicated and one you do this you can back-up ANY game

Ridiculous in the sense that someone would waste their money buying a product that the wanted to own and support the developers when they could just download it illegally online resulting in the possibility that we will not see Prof Layton 2 or 3 here in the EU?

I own an R4 and have for ages but if I want a game I buy it or just not play it. But then I'm from before the age of the freetard (and I'm not that old either) and so pay for things and support the creators of these things so they can continue to create future things which can enjoy.
