Problem with CV- Come clean or not?

    I had a recruitment consultant do up my CV based on info provided.

    My LC Results were 485 but I got an A1 in Pass Irish with the rest honours.

    The CV that came back (and I never checked properly till now) had it listed Irish as honours and she had calculated the results at 540.

    The CV has gone in and I've been called for interview- I know they have done a background check. Should I come clean at the outset of the interview or keep my mouth shut? I don't want to open the interview with, oh by the way there's a lie on my CV as I'm going to look like a tool.

    Will a background check bring this up or will they concentrate more on college degrees that may be more relevant. I sat my LC in 1999 and to be honest my work experience is way more relevant. Thoughts?

    Mistakes on a CV are a big no no, be it spelling or factual errors.

    You have all the time in the world to have your cv perfect and it is a poor reflection on anyone that they dont take the time to read over it again and again and have it proof read also before sending it out.

    That being said, you have been called for interveiw on the back of this CV. If its questioned by them, rather than saying "oh, I didnt notice that", proving you didnt proof read it enough, tell them it was edited by the Recruiters and they sent it off before you had a chance to review it.

    If they dont say anything, I wouldnt question it.

    I used to work in recruitment and none of our clients ever asked for leaving cert results, everything was based on college and work experience. However this company could put certain importance on the LC results for whatever reason. Talk to your recruitment consultant and let them know you have spotted the error, you need to stay honest. If you admit to not noticing the mistake half way through the interview process it will look bad and highlight a lack of attention to detail (sorry if that last bit sounded harsh but competition is fierce right now and you should do everything you can to stand out!)

    Make the recruitment consultant admit it to the company: they f***ed up, they need to fix up.

    Suspect that it's unlikely this would cost you the job. But if LC results do matter for some reason, the company will almost certainly ask for docuemntary evidence before all the ink is dry.

    If you choose to come clean,make sure they know you did not mean to pull the wool over their eyes,that it was a mistake not made by you.

    Well he didn't check it.

    If you've enough experience, few people are going to look at LC results unless you are going for something very particular. If you've no experience, then yes they will look at the LC results. I don't think they are that relevant if you've a degree and work experience. Get the agency to fix it and resubmit before attending the interview. I doubt it matters though.

    First of all, anyone who can get an A1 in Ordinary level should probably have done Honours level :).

    But to answer your question.
    I would tell the interviewer the truth at the earliest possible opportunity.
    Explain that you had the CV made up by a recruitment consultant and
    you only noticed the mistake after you had submitted the CV.
    They may be impressed by your honesty.
    At the end of the day 485 point is an excellent leaving cert result.

    If you don't tell them and it comes out later it could well be catastrophic.

    Clarify the issue.

    If they do a background check which includes an appraisal of LC/3rd level results etc- and find they are not factually as declared- you will be dropped from consideration immediately.

    I'm 35, with 2 undergrad degrees, a slew of postgrad and professional qualifications etc- and I still get asked about my leaving cert in interviews- and what bearing it had on my career choice etc.

    OP- you really did screw up by not checking your CV- you do not need to clarify it asap......

    I wouldn't mention anything. It\'s highly unlikely they'll ask for proof of your leaving cert results. You should be fine

    I wouldn't mention anything. Why would you bother lying about it unless:

    1) You needed to lie about it to have a LC points total for the job.
    2) You needed an A1 in honours Irish for the job.

    I wouldnt worry about it OP, ive never been asked about my leaving at interview stage (finished school over 10 yrs ago), it takes up 1 line on my cv, i just mention how many honours i got, i dont even mention the grades. I find that its your work experience thats the main selling point on a CV so try and make this sound as impressive as possible and have plenty of examples ready and you'll be grand.

    I would not risk it op.
    Friend of mine was working in a bank and 9month's in, the bank asked for copy's of qualification's. They found out she lied about her leaving and sacked her. Not worth it imo.

    If it was the recruitment guy's fault get him to fix it. Tell him you dont want to go in there on the day and say it to the interviewer's as it may look bad on you and you could be dropped from consideration.
    Hopefully this will scare him a little at the thought of loosing the commission from you and he will blame himself rather than making you look bad.

    Don't risk it, if they are asking about the LC they will want a copy of your results.

    Try and find out if they expect documentary proof of your results. Some places will , but I would say its unlikely for most , esp for LC results. Banks maybe one of the few cases that do , and the public service may as well.

    just roll with it, its a tough world and lying is the only way to get ahead. forge any documents you need if asked.

    You should come clean. But its probably irrelavant anyway since it was 1999. but the truth my stand to you.
