Till he gets fired. Its illegal. He is quite stupid for doing it, because a job at the moment is something you want to hold to. Dunnes fire people for labeling a chicken roll as a sausage roll. Thats €2.00 instead of €3.80. Only a mater of time before he would be caught im sure

This is one of the worst beers ever invented and anyone who drinks it is just a victim of mass marketing. For reasons similar to Westlife topping the charts this has been turned into a trendy beer via the media.

It's literally Mexican piss. Why the **** would anyone want to add a lime to a supposed "premium beer"?

I'll tell you why, to cover up the urine taste.

Imagine putting a lime into a premium, proper beer? Heresy.

Buy this and post a vid on youtube flushing it down the can. Back to its true home.

I would agree wit ya jay, just goes down like water, but everyone has different tastes seeing as so many love and hate heineken, bud etc

The porter house do a beer similar to corona but much better. Cant remember the name, comes in a bottle and is high percentage too

    .

I've no doubt there are better qulaity mexican beers, BUT are they available in ireland ?and for a reasonable price?

Young lads 21st coming up soon, so decided to get a few in. The lad was also heading out to a barbeque later today and was going to take a some of them with him, so he made one additonal purchase.

So there we were, queuing up at the checkout, 8 cases of Corona and 1 lime sitting on top. Slagged to bits by other shoppers:D

I never understood the appeal myself. It has been around for donkeys years and just in the last few years has become strangely popular for some odd reason. The only thing "premium" about it is the price, and I think many people actually are attracted by the high price. Many are fooled into the expensive=quality concept. I know a few people who drink it who would sneer at €1 cans of beer in a snobbish way, solely based on price. The price of the beer is their indicator, I expect many could not tell the difference between the most beers.

I have said before I think beamish would sell more if they were the same price as guinness. The way it is no I see people slagging others for buying beamish as though it is "stingy", I think they look down on people buying €1 cans for the same reason, and thinking "it must be crap at that price".

The bulk of the cost of many "premium" beers is not the ingredients, but the TV ads you are paying for.

Beer being bottled in clear bottles should set off major warning signs, beer should be stored in brown bottles to protect it from sunlight which can cause off tastes/smells. Any brewry bottling in clear class has clearly put marketing and supposed style ahead of quality. http://www.tastings.com/beer/perishable.html
    Clear versus colored glass bottles

If you have ever wondered why most beer bottles are amber or green, the answer is simple. The full spectrum of daylight can have undesirable effects on a beer over a period of time. The ultraviolet portion of the spectrum is especially harmful; promoting chemical reactions that produce "off flavors" that will take the edge off the freshness of a beer. Dark glass greatly inhibits this photochemical effect, whereas clear glass leaves the beer within vulnerable to being "light struck." The industry standard is for green or amber glass, but for some unfathomable reason a number of British breweries stick resolutely to their traditional practice of using clear glass bottles, with often undesirable consequences when such beers are left on a retailer’s shelf for any length of time.

And the whole lime crap is also an odd one. Many theories exist, keeping flies away, sanitising the bottle lip with acids, and masking the skunky taste due to using clear glass. I know one guy who would go mad at not getting his lime, yet would NEVER consider putting lime in any other beer bottle. A marketing success, a brewing disaster!

Still thanks to the OP, I will tell my mates who do drink it, €1 is the price it should always have been.

The best thing about this is that Corona are probably aghast at Dunnes selling their "premium" beer at this price - probably a loss leader for Dunnes.

I know Adidas(another ****e brand that gets by on its marketing muscle/stupidity of consumers) refuse to sell their wares to Supermarkets as they're afraid their products will be sold at low prices - thus "devaluing" the brand as they see it.

    I love you rubadub.
And the most convincing reason I've heard for putting the lime in is that a few decades back when people starting going to Mexico for holidays/surfing they put the lime in to make it palatable, much like some people put lime cordial in fosters some times. Then afterwards the brewing company added the marketing.

I personally only started to drink corona recently.
The main reason I drink it is because it gives me little to no hangover.
    Strange but true.
And the lime adds a nice flavour. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,523 ✭✭✭ApeXaviour

Patch that's probably less to do with the beer, and more to do with the lime. :) I find I get much less of a hangover from belgian beers, they put ascorbic acid (vitamin c) in them.

I agree with the marketing plug on this beer and i have succumbed to it in recent years, back when you would have to go to 3 or 4 food dept stores to find a lime
My Olde lad thought i was been barmy,i have sinced moved on to Stella/Heineken etc but at that price it`s good and it tastes even nicer with 20+deg on Bank Holiday!

Yous could always make Mr O`Brien happy and buy some of his stock :D

Anybody know if this is still going? Anywhere definite in Dublin, preferably Sandyford or Cornelscourt.
Personally I refuse to drink the stuff, but its only beer my girlfriend can drink, n if its gonna be bought i'd prefer to save a few squid.:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,211 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Don't know how they can afford to sell the stuff at this price. A friend works for the Irish distributors of Corona, and he bought 24 bottles of this stuff from Dunnes for less than what he can buy it off his own company.

    Shíte beer.
