Question about van license plates

    Hey all.

Brother had to get his van DOE'ed the other day. It failed so they kept it over night and they fixed a few things that they said were wrong with it yada yada yada, etc.

Anyway, he was bored and reading through the forms when he realised that one of the reasons he failed was "license plate". He checked the van and they have changed the front license plate. It was a regular old white license plate, but they changed it to a blue one.

Just wondering if anyone knows why? I don't quite understand.

are you sure its not just brand new with a protective blue film over it? Newly printed/pressed plates often have a blue film to stop scratching but you have to remove it when fitted.

Is the van so old that it had non-EU spec number plates like this. IIRC these type of plates with "IRL" and the EU flag are mandatory but not 100% on this.

but they changed it to a blue one.
He needs to take off the blue protective film. :)

I presume his old plate didn't comply or was damaged. http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/vrt/leaflets/format-vehicle-registration-plates.html
