laptop came without battery

Just wondering if this is at all possible. A friend of mine bought a laptop from the sony center 3 years ago. He asked me to fix his DVD rom (all it needed was a firmware upgrade). I ask him where his battery is and he told me it never came with one.

Could that possibly be the case? He said that they told him that he would have to buy one. On the bottom the model says its a Sony Vaio PCG-9U1M. But just above the power button it says PCG-K415B.

It looks to be 3 years old. The user manual here: ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/pub/Manuals/Notebooks/A3_K4/A3_K4_H_EN.pdf says nothing about optional battery.

I worked in compustore and never remember having a laptop without a battery.

I guess at this stage he has utterly no come back?

I've heard of them being shipped without batteries but that's not meant to happen at all. What was your mate thinking?

tough luck tbh. hes a damn fool for buying into that. sure did he not check the product description and notice the clear label for a 4/6/12 cell battery?

The only thing I can think of is that it was a display model and they lost the battery so sold it off at a reduced price. Hence why he was told he'd have to buy one. As said above, he has no comeback at this stage. I don't think he'd have any comeback if he bought it today. They told him it had no battery when he bought it so it wasn't missold.

Why bother after 3 years if he hasn't had it up to now!:)
