    Hi all.

I am a CASH BUYER looking at buying a brand new Renault Laguna tourer 1.5dci here.

I can get it in UK and after VAT VRT flights and ferry it works out at €19,900 Euro all up.

So I have phoned a couple of garages, (incl 1 that have bought new car from before 05 megane cabrio) and the nearest price is €28,000 Euro.

Lads I want to buy here but this is insane.

Any renault dealers here ready to do a deal.

I think the C5 tourer 1.6 diesel is a much nicer option if you are french orientated

At that price screw the irish dealers, they have been doing it to us for long enough.

Be ware the laguna will depreciate like no other so be ready for that.

At least at sub 20k you are taking a lot of the sting out of it.

As mentioned though the new C5 looks nice.

Is the 1.5 DCI strong enough for what is a big enough car.

Make sure you test drive one in Ireland first.

Personally OP I think you are mad to spend that kind of money on a new Laguna here. The depreciation on them will make you cry, there will be better value on an ex demo or used model.

If you must have new then as you have done your sums go the UK option.

The same people that would otherwise spend the same money on an Avensis?

It's more than likely the case that the dealers are paying more for the car than you can get it in the UK for so obviously they cant make a loss.

I'd also look at the C5...

Just had a quick look on the Renault UK site. The base model looks to be over stg£18k list. Using XE's generous rate thats €20,586.40 . By my calculations (doing vat roughly in my head) and the VRT calc, you'd need to be getting a discount of over €10k (over stg£8,800) to get it landed for €19,900. Am I missing something?

Thats the base model I took for a figure.

OP, bear in mind that most people buying Laguna here buy Dynamique or Privilage, not the base Expression. So it will be a nightmare to sell if and when you do. I would look for a deal here on a Dynamique, Renault where offering €4K off recently, plus you'd get at least €2.5K from the dealer.

Not to mention that Renault Ireland have a limited amount of 2.0 dci 150bhp tourers in stock that they want rid off for circa the same price as the 1.5. Renault Ireland didnt bring the entry level tourer in here because nobody wants it ( only the sheep who go to the UK for everything buy one even though most cars are cheaper here now ;) ) . Irish buyers want everything super cheap at the moment but they also want spec for nothing hence its only SE spec Passats paddy was buying in England. Even if you do end up getting a better price in the UK ( unlikely ) dont buy the enrty car because if you do then its like a puppy dog....not just for Christmas , its for life :D....PS The Uk myth is over. Spec for spec 90% of cars can be bought cheaper here with a bit of haggling ;)

I think so too. Remember as well that manufacturers are increasing list prices across the board in th UK because of the weak pound so presumably cash discounts are being squeezed. I think i heard as well that used car prices are falling no more in the UK.This probably because of the increased prices on new cars. Does this mean a stabilization in the market over here in the near future?

Have to laugh at comments on spending more in order to protect residual values (on a Laguna estate)

Yes, thats what they told me. As I said I have Megane convertible bought brand new from liffey valley in 05, so I have a relationship with garage.

Price in UK is £12838 UK for a Pre Reg still brand new 0 miles.
