The last few commutes on my way home I have noticed that while in 9th gear( its 18 speed) the chain has slipped causing me to 'nearly come off the bike'.

I have a reasonably high hill to climb on my way home and I tend to power up it, normally in the highest gear I can use..Surly this shouldn't cause this within only 3 months??

I don't use it every day either (Approx 3 days per week) which is why I'm asking this question.

    Thanks .

Has the bike ever been serviced? Cable stretch is common on new bikes, usually cables need adjusting after the first month or so. If you bought the bike from a bricks and mortar shop they should do the first service for free.

Got it in cyclesuperstore. It hasn't been serviced as yet.. brought it back once within 3 weeks to true a wheel.

Take it back to get serviced -- it should be free.... cable streth is normal -- even for the pros. :D. Usually somewhere between 2-6 weeks after getting a new bike, or new cable, you will have to readjust gears breaks etc.

Two weeks for some of you guys on here could be a few hundred miles!

How many miles/kms would you generally cover before first free 'tune-up'?
