Scratches on VW Polo - paint touch-up, Scratch-X or alternative?

Bought a 2000 VW Polo recently.. has a couple of scratches on it. Most of them aren't too deep but some are quite noticeable up close.

Would like to try and get some of them out. I know scratches come up regularly here before and ScratchX has been recommended (ahead of T-Cut normally) but I've a fear of using an abrasive.

as in Halford's last week and they've got touch-up pens saying "Volkswagen - Black" - would these be better than using an abrasive or will they look obvious against an 9 year old coat of paint on the car?

Anyways, any suggestions would be great. Will take some photos of the scratches tomorrow if it'll help.

Work away on the scratch x, it would take a month of Sundays to do any damage using it by hand. There is a scratch x 2 out now, supposed to be better again. I bought some the other day but have not tries it yet.
