OK, I have a 2001 Forrester S turbo with every factory option. Love it but circumstances and the other 4 insurable veichles :o my wife and I have mean the best allrounder in its class has to go. However one of my others, VW T25 camper can take the engine at some stage!

My question is with the state of the market would I be better off breaking the car and selling off the leather seats, lights, wheels, glass panels parts not required for the vw swap etc. I have space and time (due to unemployed!) and would enjo the process of dismantaling/selling on line etc.

Anyone do this? Is it a totally stupid idea. As it is the forrester has 127k miles, is as strong and quick as ever and never been crashed and more or less full subaru service history, is thirsty and pricy to tax but all owners think its worth it. I reckon if I got 5k cash I would let it go complete but if only 3 or 4 k then would really consider breaking and keeping the donkey for vw. I assume an isolated engine on a bench is much easier/cheaper to rebuild/recondition than having to buy one.

    Opinions appreciated.

I would have limited but competant tools/experience!

You could strip it and sell the parts, but have you the space to keep all the bits, keep in mind it mite take a while to shift all parts if any.
