Should you use a bore snake dry or should you use a touch of gun oil with it?

I put a little oil on a rag which is threaded through the loop on the end.

Ive always been a disaster when it comes to taking care of a rifle,I just shoot and throw it back in my safe,no wipe of a cloth or bore clean which is absolutely not the way to go.An odd time I feel guilty and give it a lash of a bore snake but its not the only thing one should do and Im no great one to give advise but a good brush down with a good solvent is absolutely neccessary.Ive kinda fallen out of love with my present rifle and I intend to go for something really serious soon but this time Im going to take a lot more care and keep it well cleaned.

A rifle one will be fine on a dry run but if you use a shotgun boresnake in a tightly choked game gun without a drop of oil you'll need the pulling power of a playboy bunny at an Ugly Batchelor Convention.
