Specialized or Cannondale?

So, I though I'd decided on a Specialized Sirrus Expert for my commuting bike. But then came across this CANNONDALE SYNAPSE FLAT BAR TIAGRA. Both much the same price at around €940.

Any of you more knowledgeable folks think I should stick with the Specialized or give some more thought to the Cannondale? Other suggestion welcome also, but please explain why as my bike knowledge is still in the early stages!

I know I love my Specialized. But if I had a Cannondale, I'd love that too.

I have no gripe with either manufacturer - yet, but no particular preference either except that the Specialized can be sourced in a few days rather than the few weeks for the Cannondale, and I'm getting impatient commuting on my Giant MTB.

I might be able to stretch the budget to this SYNAPSE FLAT BAR 105 TRIPLE, think its about €1200. Is it worth the extra €250?

thats a lot of money for a commuting bike, unless you plan to use it for either a long distance commute, or long weekend spins.

My commute is only 22kms round trip, but I might start some longer weekend spins soon. However, I'd prefer to buy a high quality setup for commuting as this bike will have to last me a good few years and I'm happy to pay the premium if its justified. Is the 105 a huge leap forward from the Tiagra or would I be hard pressed to notice?

You'll find the flat bars restrictive for longer spins. For 1200 you could get a decent road bike and that's what I'd go for.

Think I'm going to stick with the Specialized Sirrus Expert as its readily available and reasonably priced! However I'm sorely tempted to get something with a Rohloff hub in the future, seems a much more sensible approach and I love the engineering involved, but thats another days discussion.

Thanks to all for their advice, much appreciated.
