ok, it might just be me going through a Number 23 moment but i seem to be seeing these cars every where. When only occasionally looking out the window of the bus on the way into Dublin city centre this morning i counted 8. Considering that they are all 08 and 09 regs and the recession and all, that seems to me to be quite alot. There are even 2 on my road and i havent noticed any other 2 neighbors having the same model of cars. A mate called to my house a couple of weeks ago driving his mothers qashqai. It kind of freaked me out. I didnt tell him but i was more nervous than usual sitting in the passenger seat (he's one of the worst drivers i've seen, dunno how he got his license)
So is it just me or are these jacked up micras swarming the roads?

Hire drives - and lot's of them.

There isnt that many on Hire drive Crosstownk. Any i have seen have been driven by yummy mummy types.

Why is it such a good seller? As White Rebel said, cheap to buy, run and insure. And it does exactly what it says on the tin. Plenty of room inside, decent drive, Not a bad looking yoke either.

AFAIK, there is - check the 2009 hire drive figures and compare them to the segmentation figures (especially March). Rumour has it that there are quite a few pre-reg too. Maybe not for 2008, but certainly for 2009. But that's not to detract form the fact that they are popular with motorists.

I'll try and dig out the figures next week.

Ì was working for Nissan when the Qashqai went on sale. We had a 4 month waiting list for them, I know some dealers who had a 6 months wait time.
We were also getting full list price for them, and still selling every single one

It's a different world to that at the moment! Very different.

If the front end was a bit prettier, it would be perfect. Just looks a bit pug in the front.

At best the 7 seater is an MPV - the standard version is a crossover.

The sister got one this year and i took it for a good spin,i have to say i was very impressed with it great car/mpv/crossover thing!

There is also a pending recall on the rear shocks for anyone interested hers developed a knocking in the rear and when she phoned the garage they told her they knew about it and were waiting on the replacement parts to be designed/finished.

A good seller for nissan (they were), the 1.5 diesel goes on the sniff I'm told. My wife tried one and disliked it on a test......not tall enough she said. Nice inside she said all the same.

First of all 'Jeep' is a brand: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep
It has become a generic term like 'hoover'.

Secondly, the Quasqai is not an off-roader or 'jeep' in any-sense of the word. It is an pseudo-SUV/crossover-type yoke imbued with SUV design cues 'cos people still think this type of car has some sort of status.

Good move by Nissan - it has sold like hotcakes to people who missed the Celtic tiger but want(ed) to look like a builder...

i was looking for a nice car/jeep for my dad as he suffers from his back and wanted some comfort and this nissan seemed the best for him .
it really is a lovely car/jeep /crossover and he was really impressed untill he asked the sales man what engine it was that he took for a test drive..
and was told 'oh thats the 1.5 reanult engine.
that was a red flag for my dad even thou he really liked it and the drive ,so did i ,
but him een old school said No thanks i hate renaults and there engines ,
so now he's ordered a toyota auras , which in my eyes is nowhere near as nice but will probably be more reliable
    .

It's a good if cynical marketing move by Nissan: a Note on stilts. Most aren't even 4WD, but it has that jeepy look and high driving position that idiots imagine is cool or safe or fashionable or something.
