Discrete wall mounted speakers

    Hi All

I am just starting a renovation project on the sitting room and am looking to install a home cinema system as part of the job.

The only request I have from her indoors is about the speakers for the system, she does not want the free standing speakers in each corner as they take up to much room and are ugly in her opinion…( not my thought!) anyways.

I will start the wiring next week so if somebody could recommend a slim wall mounted speaker ( which I guess will be mounted about 3/4 feet from floor level) that would be appreciated.

I'm a bit of a novice on home cinema systems so all ideas welcomed..

pictures of speakers would be great

    regards
    L

What is your budget? Are going for a 5.1 or 7.1 set-up? What Receiver are you using?

    Hi Torres

Budget will be about 1000€- 1300€ for 5.1 system... As i am no guru on this subject so just want the amp to cover 2 zones and have a HDMI connection for blu ray DVD player..

so simple enough request i guess..

it's more aesthetics of the speakers that is giving me ear ache at the moment!

Is the 1000-1300 budget for the speaker package only or the full package, Speaker,Receiver and BluRay Player?

    Sorry for the confusion?????????

How about small satellite speakers? Certainly more discreet and wife friendly.

How about in-wall or in ceiling speakers?

Have to say that the B&W built in range is pretty good (that's what I went for myself) and in the sort of form factor speaker you are talking about, unfortunately you get what you pay for.

It is quite difficult to get good sound from small or enclosed spaces so hence the price for products that work goes up.

You could also if you were looking at small speakers check out something like anthony gallo micros.

As for an amp to power them, the onkyo 556/606 are pretty cheap and will do what you are looking for.

I have the Jamo A102HCS with Onkyo 606 and am very pleased with them- both 5* in WhatHiFi S&V............

Sony are releasing the new STR-DH800 Receiver, i think end of June, its the replacement for the hugely popular STR-DG820

    A quick search here: http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/5269

http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/4449 together these would be very compatable.......

And for a 5* Speaker package here:
http://www.quantumelectronics.co.uk/acatalog/Jamo_A102HCS5_Speaker_Package.html these have an L shaped bracket that screws onto the wall and the speaker sits onto discretly............

If you went for that combo, should come in about 900Euro delivered leaving you plenty of money for HDMI and Speaker Cables, few BluRay's and beer..............

Hi there,If you lookin for a high performance/low price system, logitech z5500 are a good bet. Only recieved mine the other day. They have been around a while but still blow anything in the same price range out of the water. Paid 270 for mine including dhl delivery in 4 days from pixmania. They can be stand alone or wal mounted and the grilles on the front are detachable so they can be either silver or black depending on your setup. Read some reviews online, these things are unreal. Can be connected to pretty much anything too
