hey there, i lost my first provisional a few years ago and had no need for it at that stage so didn't bother getting a new one but it recently turned up.

it has been expired for almost 2 years (it will be 2 years in july) and was wondering if i would need to apply to do my theory test again? or can i just bring it to the tax office and they would give me one of those new permits?

As far as i know you don't need to do the Theory test again. My wife had a prrovisional license for years and let it expire. When she wanted to get a full license she went and did the theory test and all and then found out she didn't need to do it at all. Just renew your license and all should be fine.

If your first provisonal licence has not been out of date for 2 years or more your fine.
Go to the garda station and report it lost and they will sign a form stating this.
Then get your photos again and a form for a duplicate licence from the garda station. Fill it out and bring all documents to your local Tax office and apply for a duplicate licence. I think it costs 5 euro.
    Happy days:D
