Hi I have installed a few alarms and cctv systems for a few people and I was wondering what is the procedure for getting a licence. I have a good few jobs coming up and i would like to have it all above board.

    hi jayo,
i have set up as a sole trader this year for doing alarms. thought it would be easy as working installing them but its not. first of all you need to register a company name. then you need to contact the nsai to get the ball rolling. you get a letter stating you want to install alarms, then contact the psa to get permission to install 6 alarms for the nsai to inspect. then you need to set up an office so when the nsai come out to inspect you get checked out for the sr 40. its a lot of work and a lot of money.. i started about it late in december but getting a tax clearance form held me up plus all the paper work for the sr 40. as such you dont need to be nsai certified for cctv but that is coming soon. if you have any questions regarding setting up, feel free to ask..

The whole thing is an absolute joke. Its got nothing to do with quality or product its just another scheme like the C2 to make sure people file taxes on time. Like the other poster said though if your into doing alarms do it right as the PSA with all their wisdom love to make examples of people.

There is no way that the sites I visit and have reinstalled CCTV would ever pass if the monkey test not to mind a proper test. The PSA better not come out with daft guidlines on CCTV, if they do Ill gladly move country.

your right, it is a joke.. you can loose your psa license if your not tax compliant. its funny about the psa as if you report someone for doing alarms they never do anything about it, except for one or two who have being done. look at all the new bell boxes around the place with no stickers on them and even in new estates that are only built. where is the psa and what are they doing about it. it costs enough to get the license in the first place to install alarms.

it is mad looking at cctv jobs. some people just dont care and once they get there money they are happy, you know yourself the profit from cctv, you would think they would have more respect for the install and do a proper job.

There is good money in CCTV and for that my clients get all there cables hidden as best as possible, excellent manuals, high quality equipment (no chinese muck) and they get 15 years IT knowledge and dedication in every install. we go beyond whats needed because if its not done right I cant sleep at night, ask my staff he hates my "has to be done right" side!!! Not enough guys take pride in their work, I mean I admit it Im over the top I want everything level, everything perfect, all cables neat, all holes drilled out refilled and a million other things. But if My competitors were even half as caring then the industry would be better for it..

SAying that, I dont care, my competitors are my best advertisment. You want it done right you call Fusion...

    Hi PeteK,

Ya Sorry My website is a little behind schedule as we're up the walls, need to get that finished to be able to show off our work.

Sure you can ask its no secret!! We install CCTV both traditional Analogue, IP CCTV and we're one of the only ones doing High Definition CCTV Multi Megapixel. We also are authorised Partners of Toshiba telephone systems. We are authorised partners of Panduit, do we install certified copper and shortly fibre optic networks. Finally we also do full wireless networks and external point to point systems.

My main concern with all work is that it is done safely, to code, neatly, to budget and on time. I hate dirty work and hate chancers who give our business sector a bad rap. Quality work is something to be proud of and something that sells itself.

I love to help people out here as I have 15 years knowlegde doing this and Im all for good Karma. Boards is one of the best things ever invented, its saved me many times so its important to give something back!!

Now hopefully that doesnt constitute an advert and get me in trouble!!!!
