    Hi

just wondering If I buy an unlocked iphone, and then get the vodafone data add on , would this suffice?

Really just looking to check email and the odd browsing and app download?

Or should I move over to O2

    Any advice appreciated.

I'm not sure about the details of Vodafone's plans, but there is no reason you can't just buy a data add on and use that. You'll just need the Vodafone data settings which you can get from the sticky on this forum. Getting an unlocked iPhone could be a problem though. You'll have to get an unlocked one from Italy or Belgium as the current ones in Irish shops cannot be unlocked. Try searching on eBay, too.

Yeah I have one on Voda works fine. They have a number of data plans. I use the 5GB plan which is 20 quid a month. Have MMS working fine as well (using iPhone 3.0 Beta)

If you're on prepay note the live add-on won't work, the live.vodafone apn won't work on iphone as it requires proxy settings, which cant be entered into iphone.
There was a hack you could do ages ago to get it working (using a file called proxy.pac) but I've failed to find instructions or modifications for 2.0 +. Couldnt get it to work anyway.

    Hi

Thanks for the advice. Am currently on pay monthly and have sourced a phone on ebay so may go down that path.

Rew: does the v3.0 allow blutooth connection to other devices such as other mobiles and handsfree ?

Haven't played with the BT much TBH, it always connected to head sets but it does stereo bluetooth now I believe. Your very limited in your ability to BT to other phones. Doesn't see my MacBook or my Sony Ericson for example. You can only send contacts by MMS or Email. You cant transfer files, pics, vids or anything else by BT. So no sharing gruby videos with your mates! I reckon BT support will get better with time.

They haven't said that they're going to build in bluetooth file transfer into the iPhone OS, but they are allowing developers access to the Bluetooth hardware in the phone. It's likely that some developer will make an app for sending files via Bluetooth.

My understanding is that its very high level access that wouldn't be sufficent to implement BT profiles.
