Should I get back into it?

Really loved the prologue episode in Africa

Hated that the show was once again set in the US with a generic terrorist plot

Hated the crippling that US anti-torture opinions have done to Jacks persona.

Was indifferent to the plot and implications and quit watching about episode 11 to start watching chuck instead.

Now that it's over, is it worth getting back into it? Is the rest of the season solid? Would you say it has been one of the best seasons?

I enjoyed it and think it's worth watching the whole season TBH. It's got quite a few twists and turns for the next 13 episodes you haven't watched, though things do wind down quite a bit in the final couple of episodes and many "big" story developments are predictable. Still worth it though and this is easily one of the better seasons, though not quite as great as season 5 (which I consider the best) or 1. And since there's f**k all to watch over the summer, why not watch the rest of the season? :)

It's been the most refreshing season since season 1. Well worth watching. Granted one or two episodes were sub par but apart from that it's incredible watching sometimes.

I am on Episode 8 and it is great to be watching. I don't know if it brings back the freshness of season one but it is much better than either seasons 4 and 6, while not being on a par with Day 5.
Hated the crippling that US anti-torture opinions have done to Jacks persona.

He seems to be happy to take on the role of torturer yet if you look at season 1 - 3 he really wanted out of the system and he wasn't doing that much torturing then, it seems like the writers just feel they need to (in some way) argue for Torture, as though it really is the only way to get information and Jack is always right to torture people.

OP, I also loved the prologue set in Africa and thought they were going to go somewhere very different with this season as promised. Sure, we have twists, but nothing original that hasn't happened in previous seasons. I thought it was one of the worst seasons, and actually had laugh-out-loud moments towards the final episodes.

If it was set and filmed in multiple countries with a fresh story-line that didn't involve a writing style found in cheap paperback crime thrillers, then the format might have serious potential. Instead 24 has kept getting worse since season four.

I think 24 if it is to continue needs to reboot itself. I just saw "In The Loop" while it is a comedy, I would think the style of writing and direction would definately suit 24. I.E. the pseudo-cinema-verite style <<<< sado nerd talk for pseudo-fly-on-the-wall-documentry.

But also the realistic dialogue in 24 would be worth putting in, when you look at the dialogue even in Season 5 of 24 your think the writters are so full of themselves and their views that everything is said with complete and utter importance, it would be nice to see normal people talking even in the offices of CTU or the FBI etc.

    hmmm... mixed reviews :(

I think they really do need to completely reboot the series. Get rid of Jack, get rid of CTU, make the show international. It also might be an idea to have multiple lead roles so while one is on a plane you could be watching the other one somewhere else. It would allow commuting to be a viable option, rather than having the whole season set around 1 city block.

I had heard a lot about 24 and saw a few episodes here and there over the years.

I decided to watch this season and found it very engaging up until the point where they seemed to just go mad with plot twists...just as one seemingly incredible threat was identified and sorted out another would emerge...

I found that hard to take and frankly gave up..although I still have the last 4 or so episodes on Sky+ and might get back to it sometime.

That doesn't sound good at all. :(

You should take a look at season one you can rent it from extravision.

Well the backlog. I'm pretty much up to my eyeballs in media I have yet to consume: games, movies, anime, TV shows I missed (the wire, leverage, lie to me)

Plus then there's also, you know, getting outside in the Sun

I'm just wondering does the quality of this season greatly improve over the first half of the season which was a snorefest tbh.

The first half of the season was superior to the second half of the season. Or more accurately the first two thirds of the season were of higher quality than the last third.
So if you thought the first half was a snorefest you'll probably spend your time more productively catching up on your other media or indeed getting out in the sun :).

The season gets worse with some of the worst storylines and terrible acting thye show had ever produced. Im afraid this will be my last season of 24. Iv suffered the last 3 in the hope they will get back to something close to the first few seasons but I doubt it will ever happen. A reboot is the way to go.

So you have seen 1 excellent season, 1 poor season and 1 good season. hardly suffering really. i'll be looking forward to next season anyway

well I guess that settles it, I'll give it a miss then. All I have now is the wire to fill the gap.

I find terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicals good. The Wire is in a different class of TV IMO.

    According to you.
But then again you are the one who is happy to watch another season. So you will excuse me if i choose to ignore your opinion on the matter just like you have the right to ignore mine.
