Meanwhile, advanced paramedics who operate rapid response emergency vehicles in counties Tipperary and Limerick called in sick last night after the HSE failed to pay an agreed allowance in recognition of their specialised skills.

A planned withdrawal of services on May 11 was averted after the HSE assured staff that the allowance would appear in their pay cheques yesterday.

However, the allowance was not paid and paramedics called in sick at 8pm, leaving Limerick county and city and Co Tipperary without rapid response vehicles.

The dispute is expected to spread to paramedics in other HSE areas as early as today.

    Paramedics in dispute with HSE

Advanced paramedics who operate rapid response emergency vehicles in counties Tipperary and Limerick called in sick last night in protest at what they said was the Health Service Executive’s (HSE) continued failure to pay an allowance previously agreed.

A planned withdrawal of services, due to take place on May 11th, was averted after the HSE assured staff that the allowance would appear in their pay cheques yesterday.

However, at 8pm last night the advanced paramedics called in sick, leaving counties Limerick and Tipperary as well as Limerick city without rapid response vehicles.

In a statement last week, the HSE said: “The HSE is paying the allowance and this will be authorised at the end of May if not earlier.”

Good on em, at the moment advanced paramedics are being paid the saem as basic paramedics, even though they have the added responsibility and underwent further training. The labour court recommended an allowance for ap's, and thats what the issue is here. At least they are standing up and not taking any more messing around by the hse.

So it seems rather than blue flu we're getting yellow flu this time :D

Not true. Tipp North Riding still had their allocation of ambulances on duty & the rrv was back on duty by 1600 yesterday.
