Applying to schools

Some teacher friends recommended not cold-calling schools with CVs until the state exams are underway, because they're just too busy at the moment.
But time is hanging heavy on my hands right now.

Is now (say next Monday) the wrong time to approach schools on spec?

    Opinions would be welcomed.

Definatly not. You should go into the schools Monday and try and meet with the principal or vice principal. I applied for schools 3 weeks ago and got one just yesterday. I would recommend give them a week or two and then ring to follow up on your application. It worked for me. You should try your old school, they always take on past students. :)
