Don't the National Gradings take place at the IJA headquarters?

I Dont Know where they usually take place but this link here from the IJA Website says the venue was changed, dont know the old venue, this merely states the new venue and confirms times

Ordinarily yes they do (National Training Centre in Finglas) but tomorrow its being held in Portmarnock Leisure Centre, which is IMO better suited.

The hall is more or less the same size, but there's huge parking facilities, good showers & changing rooms and most importantly for a grading held on a Saturday - a bar upstairs :D

I always found that a bit odd when i lived in dublin that the leisure centres has bars in them.

In fact There was one facility i was in that had 3 bars and the ****tiest weight room facility I was ever in

Thanks Jolene Modern Stockroom. If all goes well after we break for the summer I'll have to go for the National Gradings as well.

Can you explain what the National Grading is like by any chance? Also how many tournament points do you need to qualify for Blue and up? I have to start doing the tournament rounds too after the Summer break. Trying to get fit atm.

For your blue & brown belt you need to win two from five fights, then its Kata and technique's.

For your black belt you need 100 points, but if you get five straight ippons in competition (once the competitions qualifies for dan points) you get your BB, then move onto your Kata and techniques.

For your BB the Kata and Techniques part of the grading can be done on another day. Also if your over 35yrs old you can collect the required points over a two year period as opposed to one year for the younger guys.
