    so i ordered mine for next wednesday.. are they likely to scare me into changing everything in the car or will it be a realistic list?

    the car only got checked through by a mechanic 2 months ago before i bought it and it sounds grand so i'm hoping the list will be small...

    I doubt they'll scaremonger, but be aware that it is mostly an up-selling exercise.

    What year/model/mileage on the car since you bought it? Yes, it's probably an upsell exercise by the dealer but if it's free take advantage of it. See what they find/don't find.

    I went in for the free winter check in one of the main dealers last December. I was not impressed; it seems the mechanic put in too much oil. The oil didn't need to be topped up at all!

    I found that some of the items on the list weren't carried out, eg. topping up screen washer fluid. No such thing as a free lunch I guess!

    Also, the report said i needed two new rear tyres :rolleyes: I checked myself with a tyre depth gauge and had a tyreman check when I was getting a puncture repaired. Needless to say, I don't need to get new rear tyres just yet.

    Well even if you did need new tires, for god sake, don't buy them from dealer...
    Seen a guy recently at Frank Keane getting new tires, he could have bought 8 for the price he bought them for compared to a local garage...It was 250 euro/tire in 16"...

    johnny, i thought the thing about the check up was that they didn't fix a thing, just give a list and that's why the work wasn't done?

    i've had a read of the other thread you linked.. not fully sure what to make of it. i can't let it tarnish my view of bmw mechanics.

    :eek::eek::eek:.....:D

    Of course, I wouldn't buy tyres in Frank Keanes- I'll get them off the internet. Only a fool would buy new tyres from a main dealer; you know what they say..... a fool and their money :D

    You're right, they didn't fix anything; they did more harm than good by topping up too much oil. Bear in mind too that it will probably be a very junior technician that will look at your car in this free check-up.

    if he'd just do that, i'd leave it in

    Not sure, they'd probably want to bring the car in for a service if it's indicated on the dash. Sure ask him anyway.
