Hi, I am looking for a medium to dark (preferably dark) purple lipstick - Chanel used to do one but I threw it out as it did not suit me at the time - now it would do (typical). Thanks.

I can't see how this could be flattering if you have typical Irish skintone...

    But have you tried MAC?

Thanks - I did not think of looking there - I must admit that wearing it is a gamble - I am daring to wear a darkish red (wine) colour at the moment and it looks fine (it would be similar to Diva), I could never have worn that 5 years ago (when I bought it, typical)...I would not have a pale complection but I am a natural blonde. They have a few purple colours that look interesting - will see today. Thanks.

Illamasqua have a few dark purple colours, and lip glosses too :)

I was going to say that too but I couldnt think of a way of saying it without offending you :o

Id say try Mac too, or Moonshine? Or theres always Claires accessories, prob not the best quality in there but its worth a shot.

I agree with you - I ended up trying Mac, they have one that is too light and one too dark - typical - I wanted one that was warm purple like this http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/rimmel-60-seconds-nail-polish-610-pompous_1_152274.html but it is hard to get. If nothing else the dark one is good for shock value and I do not regret getting it - it helps my inner goth if nothing else :D Will post what it looks like later if I am brave enough (though not today, my hair needs a wash!)

I have to agree. What about a purple gloss, it would be less severe.

I do not like the feel of gloss though :( plus they have to be kiss proof - I use lip lock too much. I have a lovely pale purple lipstick (well it looks pink called suprise) http://uma.chanel.com/-makeup-lips-lipstick-rouge-allure-luminous-satin-lip-colour-/product/MALPR35Y (It is the second from left on the top row) Are there any lip glosses that do not rub off, I might be interested then...thanks.

I like Rimmel's Heather Shimmer, very buildable.

Thinking of getting this shade from MAC Pro when I go to the states: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a128/Lagniappe/lagniappe2/macVIOLETTA-1.jpg

Is that the kind of purple you mean or would it be way off?

    Anyone tried this actually?

That is a stunning colour and I would wear it (can you get it over here?) but the colour that I like would be a bit darker but that is the closest I have seen to what I ideally want. All the purples that I see are very cold which is not what I want. I do have a picture of myself wearing chignion by Mac, just not sure about posting it. Thanks for everyones help thus far.

I do like Rimmel but I find that I am allergic to their lipstick :(

I know I'm obsessed with it! :D I don't think you can unfortunately, Ireland doesn't have a MAC Pro :( There's one in London somewhere if you're ever over. I think there's about 4 in the States also(sooooo frickin' excited about that holiday :)). I'd love to see a pic, sharing the love for purple lipstick! Chignion looks lovely in the tube. :) I was thinking about getting one of their non Pro purple lipsticks called Cyber but it's a VERY dark purple so I wouldn't get as much use out of it. Dilemmas!

Getting my hair done today so will post this evening...I have relatives in London so I can ask them (or just visit them!), thanks...

I also got cyber, it is very dark even when on but I am glad that I have it for days when I feel like it, it just looks shocking though where as chignion looks more pinkish than purple (well at least to me when on), I do love purple lipsticks too though.

Dont know if you are Dublin or not but Illamasqua have beautiful purple lipsticks and glosses. Definatly worth looking at. They are in BT2 on Grafton St.

I think I have the Chanel one you had ... my aunt gave it to me a few years ago.
Dark plum colour - never worn it, have to say!

Maybe Stargazer would have something like that? They seem to cater for that gothy type market :P

Hi Cathy, I was in BT2 today - Bare Minerals are doing free make up sessions atm - and I saw a few shades of what you seem to be requesting.

Pm me your addy and Ill blag a few samples tomorry and stick them in the post to you :) Gillian on the counter was really nice for anyone whos thinking of going in. You get a 10 day trial sample and free little brush - and it is very little. She doesnt take all day blathering on either so its a safe lunch time bet.

I just bought my first MAC lipstick, which happens to be quite purple :) It's called Hot Gossip, its a Cremesheen lipstick and its described by MAC as a 'Mid-tone pinky plum' but shows up very purplish on me! I used a lip pencil with it called Plum Tart by Miss Sporty(picked it up for 1.50 along with a tonne of other stuff as they're discontinuing the brand, their lipsticks and lipliners remind me a lot of Rimmel's!) which is a very similar shade to my natural lip colour, just a tad darker. I really like this combination, slightly dramatic but still very wearable on an everyday basis. Tried to take a pic but it looked much pinker on camera for some reason! :(
