    Getting a message "A disk read error has occured" - Recover disk wont start up. Phone helpline a pure waste of time . Can anybody help please.

    This occurs at start-up when you turn it on, I presume? Can you access the BIOS? If you can, set it to read from the CD drive first, and maybe the recovery disk will work then. At the moment, it's probably trying to read the hard-disk first (which appears to be fecked).

    Thanks a mil Kevin, Ill try that and let you what happens. I am disgusted at the backup from Sony.

    Oh, that's a shame. Have you tried searching through Google for similar problems? Sometimes, you will find that many others have had exactly the same problem.
