    Hi all,
Can anyone suggest what is the best book to get a road bike newbie? Something that covers bike repair/maintenance and maybe riding technique...

I know this has probably been posted before but after scrolling through the first few pages I've given up...there's so many good threads that I've spent the past 2hours reading...a very productive day at work!!:)

Maintenance Wise - Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintainence.

Riding Technique - No idea here sorry. Left foot down, right foot up, right foot down, left foot up, repeat.

I have this one http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Bike-Book-Chris-Sidwells/dp/0756614279, it covers all bike styles, and maintenence, to simple training programmes, pro tips, etc etc. very good and imformative with very good clear photos, great for someone starting out, but if you are a more experienced cyclist, this is not the book for you.

The Long Distance Cyclists' Handbook is a good read and covers a wide range of topics to do with road cycling.

Sorry can't help you with any book titles but to save you from trawling though countless threads there's a "search this forum" button near the top right of the page. Very handy for finding only the topics you want.

    Quick examplefor maintenance books.

    Hope that helps.

The library usually have a good selection of books covering all aspects of cycling. What they havent got they can get from other librarys or they will even buy the book for you.
    Here's one that might suit.
Pedal Power by Tim Hughes. ISBN 0-7137-2434-X

I have that and while its good I find its a little to specific on tools to use. i.e. Wash you hands with Park Tool HW-1. Dry with 2xTW-1. You are now ready to solve your issue. Put our music, CD-10, on and relax with a cup (CP-2) or HA-34 Coffee. Optionally add 2xSUG-01 and COW-1.

I think the Zinn book is more generic.

That really is an excellent book, by no means as specific as the title makes it sound. There's an American book with more or less the same title and the contrast is sort of entertaining - the US book is full of recommendations on finding your optimum energy drink whereas the English book is more like beans on toast and a hot cup of tea will get you through a wet and windy 600....

I have to second Scott's recommendation of the Lennard Zinn book - clearest guide to bike maintenance I've ever read.

I wouldn't mind having a gander at Sean Kelly's book - it's out of print and changes hands for huge money s/h on Amazon. Surely overdue a re-print?
