Brown coffee from moka express

    Hi all.

I've only just started making coffee using a moka express, and even after following some online tutorials and whatnot, the coffee sometimes finishes brewing with a brown rather than black colour that I'm used to seeing in my espresso.

    Am I doing anything wrong?

    Cheers!

A moka pot is not an espresso maker.

Ah. I fear I've been the recipient of poor information then.

You're not the only one. I was very disappointed when I bought a 2 cup "espresso" pot recently. Very misleading advertising really

It doesn't mean you can't make good coffee though.

Grind a bit coarser and stop a bit earlier works well. Don't think of it as espresso though.

Oh it makes a delicious coffee when I get it right, it's just the colour that was throwing me. Should I admit to using bricks of pre-ground from Lavazza?

    Cheers!

We all start somewhere. Over time you might find you want more, but if you are finding it delicious then enjoy, which is the main thing.

I love my coffee from my Moka but I heard its a really bad way to make coffee as the coffee is exposed to boiling water?

I do love it for its convenience though and it makes a really strong cup of coffee.

Think I might give a chemex a try at some stage though.
