New Sky HD EPG. Phase 2 - Pace boxes

I turned on my pace 9F3003 this morning and had the new epg.
I think it's fantastic so far,it seems really fast.
I like the idea where it tells you in minutes how long a programme is on for.
The series stack in the planner is a seriously good idea.

From the reports on Sky all thomson boxes have got the epg now and this is the first roll out to the general populus!

Apparently the 9f3002 boxes may have to wait another week.

Mods, merge this with the other if you think you should-but I wanted to start a pace specific thread as the other thread is long now and full of stuff about the thomson box whose roll out has finished.

9F3004 and no new EPG yet. I had it, briefly, on my old Thomson and found it a little slow. Glad to hear it's quicker on the Pace.

As the first thread is primarily about the Thomsons, I'll keep this thread going, but renamed it. Also renamed the other. Hopefully, the thread titles make it easier...

I got the Pace Sky+ HD installed today instead of my older Pace PVR3 Sky+ box and it is one super box so far. It pulls in an massive signal altogether compared with about 95% Signal Strength and Quality. It is so fast to change menus and the lightning speed I was able to tune in BBC HD and the usual suspects of FIVE, UTV etc was unbelievable. It is still running on the old EPG but when it upgrades it will be even better.

I am taking delivery of a Panasonic TX-L32G10L next week so will not realise its full potential until then. Sky+ HD on a nine year old CRT with RF in is not so mighty however! The installer was wondering had I lost it until I explained the delay with my panny:pac:.

My one gripe if you could call it that is that the box has a dull matt type finish and not the nice shiny black as it looks like in the adverts etc.

Don't forget that itvhd [for what little programming is on it] is viewable with this new epg software.
As thats a pace box,you should try a forced software upgrade and you may have the new epg then.

Tried it and it worked! (however sorry I didn't wait) I am still on a CRT:eek: (until Tuesday) when I get a Panasonic 32" TX-L32G10L LCD so will only appreciate it properly then.

The new EPG is not at all friendly if you had a small <28" screen it would make viewing it a pretty squint worthy experience. I am also having recording problems now with "recording interrupted" until the card is paired fully to the box and they turn on the HD channels. according to Digital spy this problem is cured once the card is fully paired to the box or else I got a dud one either.

The new EPG is tailored for HD viewing, which is why it's only available on HD boxes. I'd imagine it's quite difficult to view in SD.

It's not too bad actually if you are near the TV.
The only HD tv I have is a 32" sony lcd and ,it looks beautifull on that.
However I'd imagine the epg is best viewed on a 40" or larger [the larger the better] as the smaller writing in the info is less of a problem then down the back of the room.

Unless you ar 4 to 6ft a 32" is a little small for HD.

It's assumed by people designing that viewing distance is 8ft to 10ft. Thus a 40" would be a minimum and 48" to 60" deemed typical when designing HD GUI.

ON an SD GUI you have to assume a 14" TV at 10ft. Hence the rather clunky larger nature of Teletext and older EPGs.

    Agreed Watty.
Thats probably why those that designed the new EPG weren't concerned at the smaller writing on it.

    Hi Guys,

has anybody found problems since the new EPG install? When i press red interactive button on sky news, the whole box freezes, and then resets itself. This happens at least once a day! Pain in the right testicle if you're recording something!
