BMW 320d Convertible - A good buy in a couple of years ?

I was thinking...wouldnt the 320d convertible be a good buy in a couple of years..

Its a 3 series...diesel...and a convertible folding roof......fun and cheap to run. Yes it is heavier than the coupe and will kill some of its driving pleasure but the car would be ideal as an allround car and would be great on the continent.

Anyone have one....any cons apart from the obvious above

    Review

Following our announcement of the new BMW M3 Convertible at one extreme of the open-top car spectrum, BMW introduces the most frugal Convertible in the 3 Series range, the 320d. Available in both SE and M Sport guises, the new 320d uses the same 1,995 cc engine from other 320d models in the 3 Series range to offer 177hp and 350Nm of torque.

This single-turbocharged two-litre diesel engine propels the 320d Convertible from zero to 62mph in 8.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 139mph. EfficientDynamics plays a part in the car’s performance with stop-start technology on manual cars, a second-generation common-rail injection engine, and a Diesel Particulate Filter fitted as standard. These technologies ensure that the new 320d Convertible is BMW’s most frugal open-topped 3 Series, delivering an impressive 53.3mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of just 140g/km.

...yes it is a good idea.

Which is why VAG do their convertibles in diesel for ages.

Saw a nice diesel A3 convertible in white, w/ Magma red leather, at Heuston one Sat morning.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Prefer the Coupe myself. Might be eyeing up a 330d in saw a years time. Very low tax on 330d if registered after June 2008.

...but the folding hardtop sells this one....The only VAG to my knowledge with a metal folding roof is the EOS...has a diesel.. and the other alternative is the diesel volvo C70...apart from peugoets

Normally i would agree with you but i love the lines on the roof of the convertible. Very unique.

Certainly looks good with the top down. Hope the weather stays good for you if you decide to buy one. ;) These things are meant to be driven top down.

Mate of mine has a 320d coupe and it is surprisingly rapid and refined. The convertible looks great with the roof down but something about the boot is wrong with it up. The red interior is a bit shocking in real life. A brown leather is much nicer, remember when the roof is down everyone will see it. (and your bear belly, bald patch...well mine anyway...).

Sports seats are a must. Bluetooth is very handy, M sports kits are good but dont pay extra for it. The steering wheel is good on the M sport. The bur walnut is a nice finnish or the piano black. Heated seats is always good on a drop top.

So did I. It was about time that BMW replaced the dated canvas roof with a folding metallic one. It looks great in the pictures but I was very disappointed when I saw one up close (a 335 petrol) a few years ago. The lines just didn't add up :(

tnks mate...no beer belly yet but if i spend any more time in buenos aires with the cheap beer...who knows...

Doing some research and the red interior is quite unique...i remember loving it on the s2000 with the silver paintwork....i got 2 years to decide..so no worries.

funny how it works but either the bmw 320d convertible is what i want or a final edition 2000 audi a4 convertible.......the latter in my opinion being a future classic.

haha its funny i never ever go on any forums, but i just thought i'd try posting a thing about hard top convertibles, and the very first thing i stumble across was this. i got myself a honda crx del sol 1.6 vtec transtop there a couple of weeks ago, and i love it! and then i thought of what i'd get if i ever got sick of it (very unlikely) and i started thinkin about wat hard top convertibles are available, preferrably electric hard top and somewhat affordable and also fast !! there wasnt really much i could think of... with the exception of the eos which is a crackin car all around ! but kinda girly.. dno why.. and not to mention NOT CHEAP.. and you have to get a big engine if you want it to be fast !

    peugeots.. out of the question..
    mercedes slk? certainly not.
opel astra twintop? great lookin car... but its an astra...

the only realistic other thing was this car the 3 series hardtop convertible, although id probably go for the 3 litre instead of 2. the only drawback is there are sooo many bmws on the road they've completely lost their magic about them.. you want to have something you're not gonna see everywhere you go and find about 20 of them parked in any car park u stop in.

Hey there, and welcome to the motors forum. It's usually best to have a read through the forum charter before posting in any forum. It is against the rules to drag up old threads, unless there is a reason for doing it.
You're more than welcome to start a new thread if you like.
