what do you do when you get an eircom bill of 400 euro after ordering a package of free evening and weekend calls to the uk, and they are looking for the bill to be paid before they remove it . I said thats not right, and surely NOT pay it and then let them remove the extra charges of 280 overcharge? any help or advice would be welcome on this thanks.

Depends on what the €400 was for, why do you think you are over charged.

    eircom over charge.
It was after an order had been placed for the UK calls package, which comes to 60 a month including broadband, and then instead of having the calls to the UK put in the package, they were charged as regular UK calls and came to 225 before VAT. This is what is so galling, the order was placed over the phone and confirmed verbally by someone BEFORE the calls were made, I believe.

If you pay it, they'll credit the difference to your account & not refund it.

Threaten to move to another providor & just get the landline cut off.

Or just pay the bill that was run up making calls?

Do packages not usually take effect at the start of the next billing period? ie if you ring to add a package on the 15th of the month but your bill runs from 3rd to the 2nd of the following month then the package wont take effect till the 3rd of the followign month.

No - if you request any of the packages from Eircom over the phone/on line they take effect within 24 hours.....

To the OP - give Eircom a ring - speak to a supervisor and explain your case.

Well I havent paid an Eircom bill in about 6 months because of similar issues - and they've written them off.

They have continually, and very consistently of them, been charging me for A) reconnection fees (which were meant to be free)
    B) Meteor calls (which are meant to be free)
    C) connection charges again
    D)Meteor charges again.

Seriously, they are useless. Do NOT pay that bill. Tell them you want those charges removed from your account, not help provide them with another current asset until you use enough to work of the 400 overpayment. Thats just dirty tactics. As you havent paid it yet, there is NO reason for them to state you must before they refund it as credit.
