I reckon my Psion is worth its weigh in gold, never mind the 30 odd euro I paid for it on e-bay. It is small, light, a pair of batteries lasts for weeks, you can carry it anywhere, you can type on it, and it's virtually impossible to lose anything. Even if you switch off mid-sentence, without saving anything, it will all be there as soon as you switch on again.

Yes, it's seriously old technology, it doesn't have WiFi or anything like that, but it does mean that you are more likely to get on with actual writing and not surfing the net in search of that elusive bit of information that you don't really need.

You can back up everything onto a flash drive and upload to a real computer, but for actually getting your story down, this is the business.

I have a HP subnotebook that I bring with me on my morning commute. I get the vast majority of my writing done on the train between Portlaoise and Dublin :)

I found an old one in a charity shop one day . Seemed to work fine . I filled up the little
disc , bought new ones but found as soon as i put a blank one in it copied everything again . No instructions with it naturally so I dont know what I did wrong -had a great few weeks with it for the 5 euro i spent . Its at the bottom of my desk drawer now but if i ever figure it out I will go back to it . very early model but it might be worth looking for the instructions for one .. Then again maybe thats why it was in the charity shop !

I went through three of the early Psions and have a 3C(?) lurking somewhere in the recesses of our rubbish-filled box room.

They're pretty good, but the keyboard is way too small for touch-typing. All the gadgets I've owned have thought me that you can't beat a pen and paper at the end of the day.

I reckon you need the Series 5 to get a decent keyboard. I've got a netbook, but prefer the keyboard on the Psion.

I sent a message to Pauline on Myspace but thought I'd register here to give details on this thread as well. All Psion manuals are available online at:
