One of the best 10kms i have done. Really fast course. Maybe a flat .5 mile followed but a downhill mile. If you want a pb go to Youghal on sunday. Shower facilities and the grub after it was second to none. I went home last year with a pb and a fully belly. Not bad for 20 euro and thats the reason i will go back again. And its all for charity.any boards members planning to do it ???

did this race last year and was a great event....didn't expect that we would be finishing in a diff part of the town (the promenade) to where we started, so kept expecting to have to face that dreaded hill back to the school.............we never had to, thank god :) anyway the feeding was brill alright and facilities excellent..... for a charity race, the prizes were really good too ........ they were handing out kit kats and packets of crisps like there was no tomorrow too :D
as for a pb....if u are looking for one, then yes this is the race to try...the wind was pretty tough last year but there is enough good running on the course to fight through this....

My hometown race so will be there. Missed it last year to go to heineken cup but unfortunately no point in going to edinburgh this year!
Very fast course, will be looking for a PB.
The race is for a great charity also which although only 3 years old is has already raised enough to finance 2 Phd students solely devoted to cancer research.

    Count me in so!
Seriously, the Mother-in-law has asked me to do it (she had planned to walk it with a neighbour), but she has cried off with a mystery back ailment; so I'll be there.
Glad to hear it's a nice fast course. The promotional flyer does say that it is "on a flat, fast course", but that is usually code for "loads of uphill....., but some downhill too, so on average it's a flat course".
Hadn't planned this one, and with a 10 mile race the week before and the Cork City marathon relay the week after, not sure if my preparation is the best. Will grab a PB with both hands if on offer though.

This sounds like it might be nice and I think the forecast is good for the weekend so
could be a nice day out..

Folks, if there is anyone running in this who would be willing to give a fellow Boardsie a lift to the race, could you please PM me?

I live on the Northside of Cork so could either meet in the City Centre or Blackpool. I would, of course, pay towards motion lotion.

    Cheers! :D

    Gringo,
I think I met you yesterday.
From the time you have posted etc, I think that we discussed the course beforehand in the queue for registration, and then in the changing room, where you told me to use the hills.
Which I did (2 x 6 min miles!!!) to my detriment towards the end of the race.
You zipped past me on the downhill again telling me to "use the hills". Good luck in the marathon next week.

Scored a PB and got Sonia's autograph on the same cap that John Tracey autographed last week. Score.
No kit-kats or crisps though ...........:(

That was me alright....you'd a good time so, you were looking to break 42 which you did. You have to use the hill alright but once you get to the flat at the bottom you have to back off, the downhill speed in the legs can fool you into running too fast on the flat afterwards. The last 3/4 mile was tougher than i had remembered from 2 years ago and I started my sprint on the final downhill section only to realise there was still the smallest little uphill to the finish line which left me gasping.

Shoulders are red raw today from no sun cream!

Hmmm, I didn't suss out either of you at the race yesterday. Mind you, you were both far too quick for me!

I had the foresight to slap on a load of factor 40 before I left Cork so I only had a bit of redness on my face where I didn't apply the stuff.

I found those hills tough, especially the one at 5.5 miles - it was a killer! Did either of you find the wind affected you? I really struggled against it, but then I was dead slow lol!

On a slightly negative point, I thought the t-shirt was very disappointing. After paying €20, the least I expected was the name and date of the race on the shirt, all there is is the charity's logo - very poor effort!

Overall though, I enjoyed the day and got myself a PB. The best thing though was one of my team mates - Rhona Lynch - won the womens race, knocking almost a minute off her course record - brilliant!

I will certainly do the race again next year.

When we turned into the wind at the roundabout I felt it and thought it was going to be a tough 2 miles home but it was ok I thought once got back into the narrow streets. The wind was strong though and definetly made a difference.

I thought the wind was in my face going out towards the roundabout (4 mile marker), then couldn't believe it when it was still in my face (& stronger) when we turned back into town :o.
Once we got the shelter of the buildings later on, it wasn't too bad. That hill going back up to the lighthouse was a killer, I felt like I was going backwards, but significantly nobody was passing me, so I guess everyone felt it.
The t-shirt was OK - sometimes there's too much rubbish printed on these "free" t-shirts.
My main gripe was the lack of Kit-Kats and crisps that I had been promised.......

Oh yeah TOP MARKS to the organisers for having the walkers and fun runners (the rest of us were in it purely for the pain) starting 20 yards back from the main field;).

I did my first 10km on sunday in 1hr so i was super pleased, but now iv sore shins and i wanted to do 5 mile race thursday evening. lovely day wasnt it!:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 262 ✭✭bewleys berry

if you have sore shins today nlm i wouldn't recommend that 5 mile race tomorrow evening.,... if it's the race at ballyandreen that is....it's a good course but for anyone who is carrying a niggle i would not recommend as there are plenty of hills on it and on plenty of parts of the course u are either running uphill or a fast downhill, which wouldn't be good for the muscles

on the issue of the kit kats and crisps at the emer casey race, or lack of more to the point, it goes to show that the recession must be hitting this section of sponsorship too! either that or i got the last of them last year:D

i ran it anyway, couln help it really wanted to do it. Shin felt good, but i wonder how tomorrow will feel.
