My brother in law is replacing his car/van and is looking at a Chevrolet Lacetti. I know it's a Daewoo. He currently has a Kia Sorento commercial 2.5L diesel and needs a hatchback/saloon cheap. He has spotted an 06 for 5000. Price is critical, its all he has got. It will be a cash deal.

I looked on cbg and it is laughable. 21 cars listed ranging from 15,000 to 5,500 and all are dealers. Not sure what planet some people occupy in the motor trade.

On the buy and sell it is much more realistic. 06 for about 5000 and 05 for about 4,000 disregarding a few mad ones.

The reviews are not great at all. Parkers reviews the 1.6 and 1.8 and the review is poor although no mechanical problems reported. The Irish ones are all 1.4L.

He sees the value in the fact that it is cheap with a jump to a 06 with the view that it is less likely to have any problems. I am not convinced at all and need some advice/ammo to stop his purchase. Some good alteratives might help. Power is obviously not a concern and it is all price. Low mileage is a must so no high miler ex-fleet cheap flash cars. Personally I think an 02 golf would be a better buy for that money. But the golfs have there own problems and he does'nt want service bills soon after purchase.
