    Hi all,

Can anyone here tell me the biggest societies in TCD? The ones that have the biggest membership, give out freshers week bags full of stuff and have the biggest on campus presence?

If any of the posters here are in anyway involved could they let me know to what extent and with who aswell as I would like to ask a few questions.

    Cheers for all your help.

In terms of actual membership the 5 biggest are

Vincent De Paul (free membership gets them loads of members)
    Comedy Soc
    The Phil
    The Hist
    Food and Drink

    Cheers.

In terms of actual on college presence and member goody bags/nights out etc, who would be?

I've been told Dubes (sp?) are one.

There is a Pimp Your Club/Society Thread at the top of the thread.

And as for which has the largest presence the list that ilovemybrick gave you is accurate. Though for presence Players is quite well known.

As for DUBES its middle sized 800-1000 members I think, it doesnt do a huge amount of nights, but has the BESS ball and does a few BESS related events each term. Oh and the DUBES trips. It does a bit, its just all BESSY.

When you get to college you'll learn that the largest nights out, with the exception of balls, tend to be run by promoters.

    Cheers lads.

Smells like a company/promoter to me, as opposed to a prospective student. They're looking for details on societies to sponsor i'd guess.

EDIT: Dang, seconds late. But i'm still right \o/

Do tell. Otherwise you're just exploiting our hivemind, and that's not fair =(

A company/promotor, nah. I will be working for a company interested come July but as of now no, not yet.

Trying to do some background on prospective opportunities for said company.

Check the posting history lads, nothing suspicious at all.

The Phil is the biggest as far as I know, draws in the big guests are were pretty generous last year in regards food/ non alcoholic drinks and goodie bags, Had live bands and other activies like a rodeo bull throughout the week. Thursday evening debates and esp guests draw huge crowds. I'm a member of council so feel free to PM me

If it is a legitimate business proposal I would suggest contacting the CSC in Trinity College.

And its not that there is something suspicious but as someone with that many posts, you should be well aware of how boards.ie feels about promoters. That's what adverts.ie is for.

And this does kind of read like a "want to make money quick? if so contact me!" ad.

If it is a legitimate business proposal, though how you intend to make money off of societies, who are more interested in pumping any funds they get back into events and trips, is beyond me, I would suggest contacting the CSC in Trinity College.

I'm not a promotor. I am someone doing background for a job I have upcoming. May as well get a head start on it.

Why the secrecy of its purpose then?

No secrecy, and no catching me out.

Like I said, I have a job upcoming that will involve bringing awareness/branding opportunities to this brand. Obviously I'd prefer not to let it be known who its for as this was intented as a background exercise to give me a headstart in the job.

I was making reference to the fact that hils edited her post but you still have her old message in the quote.

    She was caught ninja editing.

I'd say your best bet is probably The Phil. They've got a ****e load of members that they stay in contact with. They're the only society that seem to get away with 4 year membership, which is pretty cool, because it means you only have to pay once and you can go to everything whilst your at college. They did a ****e load of stuff in Freshers Week last year, rodeo bull, competitions, they even had a giant Nintendo competition and the winner got to keep the Nintendo Wii.

During the term there one of the few socities (other than the Hist I think) that always have (at least) one event going on each week, which is a debate. But on top of that they often have guest speakers (big and small) which bring in a crowd each time. They had pete doherty a few months back and that was crazy, people were fighting to get in. They also do a load of workshops and debating competitions apparently and they send students off to debate all over the place.

Anyway, check out their website - tcdphil.com. They've still got the calander up which has all the stuff they've done this year on it. I think they have a blog as well somewhere.
