Recording UPC digital channels

Can I simply connect the digibox to my sony dvd recorder via scart and record onto it? I am planning to put the digibox to incoming scart 2 decoder, and keep the scart 1 tv plugged in to the tv. Will I then be able to watch the digibox via the line2 option on my sony dvd recorder?

I read somewhere that the recordings on the dvr from upc are encrypted, so would that mean that it is not possible to record digital tv without the dvr box from upc for a fiver per month?

I have set up the same connections as you describe and it works fine. The set top box decrypts the digital signal (otherwise you could not watch it at all), and your DVD recorder is seeing the same signal as the TV. If your Sony recorder has G-Link you may be able to set up the STB to switch on and select the channel to record while you are out.
