Overtaking Lane

Please accept my apologies if this is opening an old wound.

Why do people travel in the overtaking/righthand lane when there is no traffic to their left.

I have travelled most of our motorway network a considerable amount of times in the last 12 months and have noticed this from every type of driver and every type of car.

I am genuinly interested in the thoughts behind these actions, I hope this thread is not derailed in to and us and them catfight.

    Thanks,

    RG

    There is no overtaking lane.

Only a fast lane and a slow lane.

On the way to from Limerick to Ennis, there are roadworks on the dual carriageway.
The driving lane is closed, the roadwork signs say " please use the fast lane " :D

Do you want to add something about why all types of drivers ,young and old, in all types of cars do this ? Or are you just adding to your postcount. rolleyes

I would like to hear from some body who does this for whatever reason.

Peasant please lock if you feel its going nowhere

irish people simply aren't educated on motorway use, thats why it happens

I drive in the right hand lane as Im driving faster than everyone else in both lanes. There I said it!
If someone comes up behind me I move out of the way. I dont "bob" in and out of the left lane purely to be correct (which it is, but its also pointless if you are driving fast). If I was cruising I do it in the left lane, usually Im "making progress" and I do so in the right lane and overtake everything, one after another in fairly quick succession. Happily I can report that for some reason people assume Im on some sort of official business and pull out of the right lane as I approach. Big black car, tinted windows with sun visors and BiXenons gives that impression, apparently.
Its very very rare Im stuck behind someone and as I said, I make a point of not blocking anyone by hogging the right lane, its just usually no one is actually (close) behind me.
