Blonde highlights on a budget

    Hi girls,
Have any of you blondies started dyeing your own hair since the recession and how is it working for you?

I've been blonde for about 3 years now and have always got it done at a salon. However it costs upwards of 140e and I just can't afford it anymore.
I love being blonde, I despise my natural colour (dark brown)- it completely washes out my snow white skin, but the blonde looks really well with it.
At the moment I have about 2 inches of dark roots and can't look at them any more but I hate the thoughts of having to dye it dark again. I am considering bleaching the roots myself and then putting in an all-over light blonde.

Well Garnier multi lights are easy to use, I do my mam's with them. She has light brown hair and she just likes a few blonde streaks, I don't know how dark hair would look with them.

I've heard of "freelance" hairdressers who come to your house and do everything cheaper there (most of the money goes on rent etc normally).

I like dark hair with pale skin, give it a chance. You might just need to wear different colours or change your make up to make it work.

I also have blonde hair which I always used to have done at the salon, but cannot afford it any more. When roots first got bad, I used Clairol Nice N Easy root touch up, and since then have been putting in Nice N Easy all over colour which looks great. Just as good a result as the salon, but costs less than a tenner, compared to over a hundred.

it comes with a little plastic bowl where you mix the colour, and a brush which you just use to brush the colour over your roots. Then just leave for 10 minutes before rinsing out. Very quick and easy, the only thing I find is that it doesn't last as long as a full colour.

Hi Blondes! I have totally wrecked my hair in the past trying to keep it blonde without goin to a salon and I'd NEVER do it again. I had to go to a salon to get it fixed last year. The salon closed a couple of months later but the girl who did my hair contacted me to see if I was interested in her coming to my house to do my hair. Now I get it done every 2 months and pay 80 for a full head of highlights and a cut and blow dry. I know it's not cheap but it's cheaper than salon prices and you could end up having to pay a lot more if you destroy your hair at home. I think home dyes are ok for dark colour but whatever is in the blonde ones can wreck your hair after a couple of times.
    Just Beware!!
