terrible news but hopefully goes well.

Is it just me or do golfer's families seem to suffer more proportionately from this kind of thing; is it because of the older age groups compared to other sports?

I think its just you. Maybe you hear about it more as they are in the public eye, but there arent many families in the world that havent been affected in some way by cancer.

Well I know that, my own family included...but I was talking about breast cancer in particular and the numbers heard about compared to sportswomen or wives of active sportsmen in soccer, rugby, pretty much any other sport

I dont think there is a link specifically to golf. You probably just hear about it more as Golf is an individual sport and It would create a stir if Golfers like Mickelson were missing for 'personal reasons' which the media might go after. In team sports, I think, that the media in particular wont chase up a player who is missing for personal reasons or due to illness as much as someone in an individual sport. They will deal more with the club than the player themselves.

I can see where you are coming from in terms of age given that in most team sports the players are off the radar by the time they reach mickelsons age however I dont think that any of the women who have been diagnosed with Breast cancer are of the older age bracket. Just a coincidence I would say.
