    I'm gonna setup a server locally and see if its possible to dump traffic over this IM protocol but wanted to know if anyone has bothered their ass to do it already?

    i know that under Options->Advanced Connection Settings for the client, there is radio button to connect using TLS by default, but guessing this is just for the authentication part when SIP id/password are sent.

    are the messages encrypted also?

    BTW, i'm aware that 2007 offers SRTP, but is this for messages or just VoiP calls? and is it default option for the server? because i can't see it in the 2005 client.

    ok, answered or rather found the answer to this question myself

    TLS encrypts information between servers and clients across TCP/IP ports. The default communications protocol in Live Communications Server is unencrypted TCP.

    IIRC pfsense has a built-in package for this very task.

    Just a note that your doc links to Live Communicator 2005, just watch in case you are using OCS (Office Communicator Server) 2007 R2 as it is different. All traffic between client and server is TLS and between servers is MTLS by default.
