My wife got the wheel alignment done on her car but when she came home she said the car was pulling to the oppisite side. She went back and they told her it was the tire and not their work or the machine, is this possible ?

This could be 'the job' that was done or tyre wear. Check the tyre to see if it is wearing evenly, you could rotate the tyres i.e. front to back.

it is possible but i would assume that they would put the gauges on to check it and bring you out to show you.
following on you should make sure that you have the same make tyre on the front and pressures are correct.
drive it still pulling then swop the front tyres left to right if it pulls the other way it is a tyre problem if not back to the tracking.

If you follow Sundogger5's advice and swap front tyres check they aren't directional tyres with arrow printed on the side. This would cause uneven tyre wear for sure.
