    Hey,

A friend of mine is looking at picking up a decent second hand bike. He has asked me about a Lapierre RCR 100 going for €350.

He is looking for something to get him through a triathlon in August. He is not looking for the greatest thing on 2 wheels but just something that would be better for training on than his mountain bike.

    So, any ideas?

    All the best,

    Emmet

It's a good entry level flat-barred bike at a good price, but for a triathlon he'd really be better off with a racer than with flat bars, especially if he wants to be anyway competitive.

Yeah, would be a false economy to buy that bike and then convert it to drops for a tri. Might just be better off splashing out now on a second hand road bike.

In fact the pic on the ad shows the bike with drop bars as opposed to flat bars. So I guess the seller has changed the handlebars at some stage.

In reality we are both doing the triathlon in an effort to get fit for his wedding and we are not looking to set records. I will be doing the race on a Giant FCR 2.5 and I am well aware of its weaknesses when it comes to racing.

    Thanks for the reply.

I noticed a nice looking Ribble in the adverts subforum.

here's the ad you're talking about? Sounds like a good price then, if it's already been converted to drops. Sora gears are entry level but robust. If you're not looking to break records, then this would be adequate, if he doesn't wanna spend too much on it.

The FCR3 also has flat bars.

What's the best website to check out 2nd hand bikes?

Gumtree is useless and I haven't really found anything else.
